Staff Engineer - Frontend

Responsibilities:
- Lead the architecture, design, and development of modern full-stack applications, with a primary focus on frontend engineering using TypeScript, React, and cloud-native technologies.
- Lead the design evolution of a scalable visual rule-authoring platform, and an underwriting workbench used for life insurance underwriting.
- Define and own shared frontend platform capabilities used across multiple applications, including design systems, component libraries, authentication and session management, multi-tenancy frameworks, state management patterns, and data-access standards.
- Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, code reviews, mentoring, and hands-on development across the application stack.
- Champion frontend engineering best practices, including performance optimization, testing, observability, and maintainable architecture.
- Partner closely with product, data science, platform engineering, and business stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into scalable technical solutions.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices in frontend engineering, cloud-native development, and AI-enabled applications.
Functional Skills:
- Experience building, scaling, and maintaining highly interactive applications.
- Proven success establishing frontend platform standards across multiple applications and teams, including design systems, shared authentication frameworks, generated API clients, and observability standards.
- Strong understanding of web application architecture and connectivity patterns, including CORS, API gateways, reverse proxies, backend-for-frontend (BFF) architectures, runtime configuration management, session security, and SPA authentication flows.
- Experience defining and enforcing frontend performance standards.
- Familiarity with feature flagging, experimentation, and progressive delivery practices that support safe, incremental releases.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build trusted partnerships across engineering, product, and business teams.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience designing, building, and scaling modern web applications
- .Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript, React, and modern frontend frameworks, tooling, and development practices.
- Understanding of CI/CD, monitoring, observability, performance optimization, operational excellence, and application reliability.
- Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into web applications is highly desirable.
- Experience building applications with visual workflow, or diagramming using technologies such as React Flow (xyflow), D3, or similar frameworks is highly desirable.

The base salary range anticipated for this position is $171,000-198,000, plus an opportunity for an annual company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay.
