Position Overview
As a Director, you will play a pivotal role in driving strategic initiatives and providing visionary leadership within the department. Your focus will be on delivering exceptional results, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment, and maintaining frequent and transparent communication. You will lead by example, setting high standards for teamwork and promoting continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
- Reporting to the VP, Tax, the Director, Tax will be responsible for all income and commodity tax provisions and returns
- Responsible for the local tax authority domestic audit deliveries and requirements
- Research various tax related topics and provide or assist in interpretation
- Manage or provide assistance in a variety of tax compliance and governance/administration functions
- People manage team
Your Role:
Tax Compliance and Governance including Tax Audits
- Manage all quarterly and annual corporate income and commodity tax provisions for legal entities
- Gathers and verifies all supporting documentation from various departments
- Review financial statement disclosure requirements
- Manage and review all tax reporting requirements to Head Office group tax
- Responsible for corporate tax installment remittances process
- Participate in Tax Compliance and Governance projects as required
- Responsible for responding to annual external audit and government domestic tax audit queries
- Project manage audit query responses including the coordination with various departments making significant connections between various parties to present a cohesive representation of the information
- Develop strong relationships with Tax authorities
- Maintains organized audit ready files with appropriate documentation that are fully referenced and supported
Strategic and Operational Excellence
- Monitor and analyze various strategic tax activities
- Assists in tax related special projects, research and analysis (Payroll, Pension, Group Tax)
- Contribute to various other projects (IFRS, Solvency II, M&A due diligence)
- Continuous development of process improvements and automation to the tax compliance process.
- Performs research and analysis independently to support tax positions.
- Provide technical support to ensure compliance with federal and provincial and applicable foreign and domestic tax laws and regulations.
- Partnering with various departments to develop and create efficiencies
- Create and maintain documentation that supports the companies tax position
Your Profile:
- Post-secondary education and recognized accounting accreditation (CPA, CA/CPA, CMA, CGA)
- Completion of CICA In-depth tax course is required
- 6+ years post designation experience-tax experience required
- Knowledge of Insurance or financial services taxation is preferred but not required
- Proven experience in a leadership role, with a focus on strategic initiatives and visionary leadership
- Self-motivated, results-oriented individual who accomplishes amazing work and continuously strives for excellence.
- Demonstrated passion for establishing best practices and embraces opportunities for change through process and technology efficiencies.
- Exceptional team player who possesses intellectual curiosity and contributes beyond area of expertise.
- Well-developed time management skills with ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently under tight deadlines.
- Ability to present financial information in a clear and concise manner.

- Excellent communication skills to explain analysis and results to management and staff.
- Advanced skills in Excel. Strong proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Taxprep software.
