Description: 

Munich Re Markets (MRM) designs bespoke capital management reinsurance solutions for life insurance clients, primarily in savings, retirement, and investment products. Transactions typically combine insurance and financial market risks to deliver capital and risk management benefits to insurers.

Our In-Force Solutions business is responsible for the design, advocacy and delivery management of such transactions for existing client portfolios, whether open or in run-off.

MRM seeks a client-facing Structurer to strengthen the development and delivery of In-Force Solutions in Japan. This role will be reporting to the Head of APAC In-force Solutions.

The level of seniority at which this role may be hired depends on the candidate's experience and demonstrated capabilities.

Your Role

  1. Opportunity Identification & Strategy Development
  • Continuously assess client and industry developments in Japan alongside Origination colleagues to identify commercial pain points addressable through MRM capabilities.
  • Evaluate client receptivity and commercial viability of potential solutions.
  • Partner with Origination colleagues to define market strategy, prioritize target clients, develop transaction themes, and identify new opportunities for investment and growth.

2. Solution Structuring & Proposal Development

  • Design transaction solutions that are economically deliverable, profitable, and aligned with MRM risk appetite.
  • Assess implications of solutions across accounting (J-GAAP and IFRS), regulatory (J-ICS and Solvency II), tax, legal and key quantitative metrics for both client and Munich Re.
  • Develop transaction materials including presentations, term sheets, models, technical papers, and client correspondence.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary experts to refine and validate transaction concepts.

3. Client Engagement & Proposal Delivery

  • Present solutions to clients at all relevant management levels, clearly articulating strategic, economic, accounting, pricing, and risk management aspects.
  • Manage ongoing client discussions, address emerging issues, and support client evaluation processes.
  • Assess client organizational dynamics, decision-making processes and potential execution blockers to influence  transaction outcomes.

4. Transaction Execution

  • Lead multidisciplinary transaction teams through execution and delivery.
  • Manage client-facing delivery, documentation, and transaction terms negotiations.
  • Drive internal approval processes for transactions and new concepts initiatives.

5. Commercial & Strategic Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the achievement of revenue generation targets for MRM business within assigned jurisdictions.

6. Market & Technical Development

  • Maintain deep expertise in relevant accounting, regulatory, capital management, product, and risk management developments.
  • Monitor client disclosures, strategic priorities, and broader industry trends.

Your Profile:

  • Degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, financial mathematics, insurance, business with quantitative focus, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in life insurance, life reinsurance, wholesale banking, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with senior stakeholders (internal and / or external).
  • Strong knowledge of life savings and investment products, capital management, accounting (particularly J-GAAP) and regulation.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, particularly for complex technical concepts.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects and multidisciplinary teams simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Fluent Japanese and English.
  • Highly self-motivated with strong commercial instinct and joy in executing transactions.
