Our aim is to provide sustainable reinsurance and financial solutions in preparation for these critical times. You will join as an Underwriter of the Property Treaty underwriting team in Tokyo. Reporting directly to the Head of Property Treaty, Japan, you will work alongside colleagues who possess strong expertise and come from diverse backgrounds. Our team delivers a wide range of solutions, from traditional to tailored, to Japanese primary insurers and mutuals. We are also known for our thought-leadership in the market. As an Underwriter, you will be responsible for various tasks, including risk assessment of Property treaty business using natural catastrophe and statistical models, pricing of reinsurance contracts, contractual wording, product and solution development, and client dialogue.
Your Role:
Underwriting:
- Technically assess property treaty programs utilizing natural catastrophe models and statistical tools
- Price and discuss terms and conditions of programs along portfolio steering framework within the client team • Ensure underwriting excellence from technical pricing to contract wording
- Proactively participate in dialogue and exchanges among underwriting teams, central functions in the head-office and with external expertise
- Support a cross-functional projects, develop pricing models/tools, and conduct market research
Product development:
- Proactively explore new business ideas and product/solution developments both in reinsurance and primary insurance
- Engage non-traditional products such as catastrophe derivatives, Cat Bonds, ILS, financing with natural catastrophe relief, and private-public partnerships
- Provide consultation for clients to identify pain points and growth opportunities
Client facing and marketing:
- Support the client management team in Tokyo from a technical perspective in dialogue and negotiations with clients and brokers
Your profile:
- University degree, preferably in natural science, mathematics/statistics, engineering, or quantitative economics/finance
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in (re)insurance, finance, consulting or other relevant industries preferred
- Expertise in analytical and problem-solving with structured and logical thinking
- Advanced programming experience is a plus
- Strong interest in catastrophe finance and aspiration of career development in this field, experience of (re)insurance industry NOT mandatory
- Team oriented attitude, curiosity, self-motivation in skill development, and strengths in relationship management and entrepreneurship
- Native level Japanese and business level English
- Willingness to travel
