About the opportunity

Our paid internship program will run from early December 2025 to mid-February 2026, with a break over the holiday period. You will be placed in one team for the duration of the internship, gaining hands-on experience and contributing to meaningful work.

This role is designed for aspiring talents interested in the intersection of data science and next-generation AI technologies. You will be part of a dynamic, cross-functional team supporting Munich Re’s Life and Health business across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa. The internship offers hands-on exposure to cutting-edge AI tools—including large language models (LLMs)—and their real-world applications in insurance.

The work you’ll get involved in includes:

  • Collaborate with the regional analytics team to design, test, and evaluate Gen-AI solutions that support business functions such as underwriting, claims, and operations.
  • Explore and implement prompt engineering strategies for LLMs to address insurance-specific use cases.
  • Support the enhancement of OCR and Document AI capabilities, including layout parsing, visual document analysis, and structured data extraction.
  • Contribute to building datasets, experimenting with RAG pipelines, agentic AI frameworks, and refining prompts to improve model performance.
  • Write clean, modular Python code to develop data pipelines, model prototypes, or Gen-AI system integrations.
  • Assist in evaluating model performance and iteratively improve system robustness and reliability.
  • Work alongside actuaries, data scientists, and domain experts across the APAC, Middle East, and Africa regions.
  • Support documentation, technical presentations, and high-quality demos for internal and external stakeholders.

Your profile

  • Currently in the final year of a Bachelor's degree (minimum third year) or enrolled in a Master’s program in Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field.
  • Familiar with generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, or open-source LLMs) and the basics of prompt engineering.
  • Strong interest or foundational knowledge in OCR, LLMs, and agentic AI frameworks.
  • Experience with Python, along with familiarity in SQL and/or JavaScript; hands-on experience building demos or applications using Streamlit, Gradio, or modern web frameworks such as React or Vue.
  • You will be located in Australia and able to attend our Sydney office for the internship period. Whilst we offer flexible working, we would encourage you to be in person to get the most out of this experience.
