Great Lakes Insurance SE is a white-label specialty provider and enabler for insurance. In a global setup, the Great Lakes Australia (GLA) branch manages the Great Lakes business portfolio in Australia.
GLA is an integral part of Munich Re Group, and enables insurance business for Munich Re’s business units in Australia, especially the Corporate and Global Specialty Insurance units.
As part of the Claims Team, your role will be responsible for managing claims in adherence with the policy statement, guidelines and operating standards of the Company.
As a member of the overall Munich Re Claims community, you will actively assist in implementing the Future Global Claims set-up and advance the Munich Re Claims Ambition 2025+.
Your Role
Claims Handling & Technical Expertise
- Handle and settle direct insurance claims (predominantly Financial Lines and Property) in line with claims authority, operating standards and procedures.
- Conduct thorough investigations and continual assessments of claims for coverage, liability and damages and pursue recovery/subrogation/contribution opportunities.
- Assess and calculate case reserves and ensure adequate provision is made for outstanding liabilities.
- Attend or assist senior staff (depending on size & complexity) at conferences with Counsel/lawyers, trials and mediations as appropriate and communicate the company’s views and opinions.
- Undertake claims-related administrative tasks such as: opening and closing claims, establishing reserves, paying claims and invoices and completing relevant forms.
- Provide technical and operational support.
- Where the loss affects the Reinsurance arrangement, liaise with Munich Re in line with reporting requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement & Strategic Input
- Become part of and engage with a global team of experienced insurance professionals. This role comprises regular alignments with / functional reporting to colleagues in Europe (UK / Germany).
- Build and maintain relationships with brokers and specialized coverage counsel.
- Provide feedback to underwriters from a claims perspective to assist with underwriting and pricing.
- Provide support and assistance to Claims Management where required.
- Provide regular updates on material claims and developments to Underwriting and Claims Management.
- Conduct client and market meetings to discuss and influence the direction of large or contentious cases.
- Co-operate with MR claims colleagues globally in furthering Claims goals set out in existing and future Claims targets.
- Support the MGA Claims Manager when required in managing the oversight of delegated partners and claim referrals from MGAs and TPAs ensuring adherence to service agreements, guidelines and claims protocols.
- If required, conduct client visits, audit and due diligence where required.
Reporting & Analysis
- Running management information reports based on data captured in the GLA reporting tool.
- Identify and analyse legal, political and market developments. Report those developments and their potential impact on the business to relevant stakeholders.
Your Profile
Essential
- At least five years’ experience in handling and managing insurance claims.
- Knowledge/experience of Financial Lines.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to analyse and set reserves.
- Ability to manage and organise a caseload of work independently.
- Can work effectively as a member of a team and provide support to colleagues.
- Build and maintain professional relationships.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Desirable
- Knowledge of local regulatory requirements.
- University Degree and/or insurance industry accreditation.
