We are now looking for our next Engineering Underwriter to join Munich Re do Brasil, specializing in reinsurance solutions for diverse business portfolios. Within our Facultative & Corporate (F&C) unit, we deliver tailor‑made reinsurance solutions for complex single risks and corporate exposures. Our work is driven by deep engineering expertise, strong client focus, and an agile, collaborative mindset.

 

Your Responsibilities:

 

  • Proactively strengthen and expand relationships with cedants and brokers, identifying and implementing new business opportunities. Engage closely with clients to understand their needs and co‑create tailored reinsurance solutions, leveraging digital tools to address challenges and drive mutual success.
  • Assess and underwrite portfolio solutions for clients in Brazil, including facultative and treaty business, ensuring alignment with portfolio targets, risk appetite, underwriting guidelines, and business strategies.
  • Develop and contribute to effective risk management and governance processes that support the business stability and informed decision-making, and alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Actively monitor and manage the book of business to ensure long-term profitability and alignment with company objectives.
  • Actively collaborate with local teams (Client Management, Claims, and Treaty Underwriting) and regional stakeholders across Latin America & Iberia, applying agile ways of working to enhance workflows and foster a culture of collaboration and shared success.
  • Lead or contribute to client seminars, workshops, and training initiatives, sharing expertise and promoting continuous knowledge exchange.
  • Contribute to and drive thought leadership initiatives in the reinsurance space, positioning Munich Re as a trusted and forward‑looking partner in the region.

 

Your Profile:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Civil, or equivalent).
  • Several years of professional experience within the engineering insurance or reinsurance field, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in underwriting engineering risks (e.g. Construction, Power Generation or related lines).
  • Strong underwriting judgment combined with high client orientation, negotiation and marketing skills, and an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Solid understanding of reinsurance principles and the Brazilian insurance and reinsurance market.
  • Experience with digital underwriting tools or platforms is an asset; openness to agile methodologies and innovation is a plus.
  • High level of commitment, adaptability, and willingness to travel.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English; Spanish is an asset.
