The Head of GSI Data is responsible for establishing and operationalizing a unified data governance and management framework across Global Specialty Insurance. The role ensures that data is managed as a strategic asset, enabling consistent, high-quality, and compliant data to support underwriting, finance, risk, and operational decision-making.
The position drives the implementation of the GSI Data Target Operating Model (TOM), including governance structures, data ownership, and enterprise standards. It acts as the central authority for data governance, ensuring alignment across business units, functions, and geographies, while enabling scalable analytics and data-driven capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Define and execute GSI Data Strategy aligned with business priorities, including underwriting, finance, and risk use cases
- Design and implement the GSI Data Governance Framework, including policies, standards, and decision rights
- Establish and lead the GSI Data Governance Council, ensuring effective cross-entity decision-making
- Define and enforce data ownership models (Domain Owners, Data Stewards, Business Owners) across GSI
- Oversee data quality, lineage, and metadata management, including implementation of supporting tools and processes
- Enable analytics and data product development by ensuring availability of trusted, standardized datasets
- Coordinate with IT and Data Engineering to align governance with platform architecture and data infrastructure
- Ensure regulatory compliance and data risk management, including privacy, security, and audit requirements
- Drive cultural adoption of data governance through stakeholder engagement, training, and communication across business units
Qualifications:
Successful candidates will possess the following skills/capabilities:
- 12+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or enterprise data architecture
- Experience in the insurance or financial services industry preferred
- Proven track record in leading enterprise-wide data transformation or governance initiatives
- Experience operating in global, matrixed organizations
- Strong understanding of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK)
- Experience with data quality, metadata management, and data lineage concepts
- Familiarity with data architectures, data platforms, and analytics ecosystems
- Understanding of regulatory requirements related to data (e.g., privacy, financial reporting, risk)
- Strong stakeholder management across business and technical functions
- Ability to influence senior leadership and drive alignment across entities
- Experience in governance design and facilitation of decision-making bodies
- Strategic thinking combined with pragmatic execution capability
- Strong communication skills, with ability to translate complex data topics into business value
The Company is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including Princeton (NJ), New York City (NY), and Hartford (CT). The salary range posted below reflects market variations across various locations. The offer will be adjusted per geography.
The base salary range anticipated for this position is $283,200 - $451,400, plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
The salary estimate is adjusted to reflect the varying market conditions across different locations, with the with the higher end being more aligned with the New York City job market. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
