The Opportunity 

The Subsection IT1.17.1 RI P&C Delivery holds the worldwide IT account management for our Non-Life Reinsurance Underwriting as well as the responsibility for maintenance and development of the corresponding IT systems, particularly the Underwriting Platform. Munich Re’s Underwriting Platform tool suite supports the whole underwriting process for Non-Life business units globally and is critical for Munich Re’s most important field of business. To strengthen our team, we are looking for a DevOps Specialist with a focus on North America Account Delivery for our core underwriting applications. This position will be located in Princeton. 

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Evolving our Azure infrastructure with respect to automation, monitoring, and performance for our globally used core business applications hosted in Azure.   
  • Collaborating with the solution architects in the team to support the mid-term evolution of the BEX tool suite towards new cloud-based solutions 
  • Ensure stable releases and productive deployments in coordination with our release manager 
  • Interfacing with Service Delivery infrastructure services (Windows Server, Database, Backup & Restore, Networking) as well as IT security and IT Compliance to continuously improve the systems in your responsibility 
  • Optimizing the estate with respect to operating cost 
  • Working with business units and Corporate Underwriting to plan and execute the release of new product versions  
  • Work in close collaboration with our technical platform team in Munich to ensure consistent technology stack, DevOps processes and fulfillment of compliance requirements 
  • Ensuring stable and secure operation of our underwriting applications 
  • Occasional weekend support for system releases
  • Third level support for the mentioned systems
  • Occasional international travel for team workshops 

 

Qualifications: 

  • University degree preferably in Computer engineering / IT or similar qualification 
  • Experience in DevOps processes, design and planning for compute-intensive data driven (Web) and large-scale applications, including state-of-the-art security practices.  
  • Experience with relevant infrastructure technologies e.g., Docker Container, Kubernetes, Terraform, Open Telemetry, Power Shell  
  • Experience with git workflows and DevOps pipelines e.g. with Azure DevOps, Build and Release Pipelines (in YAML and Argo CD) 
  • Good understanding and practical experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud Services (e.g., Redis, Azure SQL, AKS) 
  • Flexibility and bringing a curious and creative mindset, open to new things and able to propose innovative ideas  
  • Customer focus, willingness to understand the reinsurance business domain and become a trusted expert partner to our users 
  • Commitment and desire to drive topics and for life-long learning 
  • Experience in agile way of working perspective in a highly regulated IT environment – from a DevOps perspective
