Reporting to the Controller, this position has a supervisory role in preparation, review and controls over the accounting and reporting for all subsidiary companies. This role is responsible for leading strategic initiatives and be responsible to expand and strengthen the accounting and reporting infrastructure. Support the CFO and Controller with new business opportunities, transaction initiatives and special projects (e.g. M&A, efficiency projects) and other regional projects, as required. Act as Deputy to the Controller, as required.
Responsibilities
- Ensure establishment and maintenance of adequate controls and accounting policies supporting the financial reporting processes.
- Monitor quarterly/annual close process to ensure accurate and timely completion of all financial reporting deliverables and resolution of any issues/problems.
- Review/understand key drivers of financial results, including any financial analysis supporting the reporting process, assist with preparation and review of Board and Other Committee presentations and coordinate communication with key stakeholders.
- Review for accuracy of all interim (quarter ending) and annual financial statements. The statements must be accurate and filed timely with all appropriate parties.
- responsible for understanding and preparing proper treatment of the company’s investment portfolio.
- Coordinate external financial audits and any regulatory examinations and serve as point person for the external auditors and regulators
Qualifications
Successful candidates will possess the following skills/capabilities:
- Accounting degree required.
- Certified Public Accountant or MBA (required).
- Big “4” Accounting Experience preferred.
- Twelve plus years of experience in insurance and reinsurance accounting.
- Strong financial analysis skills.
- Superior knowledge of statutory accounting principles, generally accepted accounting principles, and international accounting/financial reporting standards.
- Strong leadership and communication skills and deep knowledge about the financial aspects of the industry
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at once. Preferably someone who has worked on process reengineering /improvements initiatives, including implementing new systems, process and controls
- Ability to solve problems and multi-task effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to identify errors, problems and opportunities.
- Proven ability to meet daily and monthly deliverables.
- Independent thinker
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and teamwork skills
- Excellent management skills and people skills (ability to deal with numerous providers of information, complex situations, various levels of the organization).
- Ability to influence key stakeholders
The Company is open to considering candidates in Princeton, NJ. The salary range posted below applies to the Company’s Princeton location.
The base salary range anticipated for this position is $237,000- $347,000 plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position in Princeton, NJ. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
