The Opportunity

The Casualty Corporate Underwriting team is responsible for designing and executing on our strategic goals for all liability lines of business across MRS-NA, prioritizing the actions that ensure delivery of our target results. As a Corporate Underwriting Specialist, you will work across all our casualty lines of business, with an emphasis on liability products (GL, Auto, Professional, Management, Excess) to set strategic goals for our business partners, creating tools that enable success and measure performance. You will partner with the casualty leadership across the organization to drive business growth, improve underwriting discipline and develop innovative products.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement underwriting guidelines and strategies across all business units
- Manage referrals for complex transactions and determine underwriter letters of authority
- Provide expert technical advice on coverage forms, exclusions, and exposure
- Monitor frameworks for underwriting decisions and develop necessary underwriting actions
- Identify product and service enhancements and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and deploy, including form language, actuarial models, etc.
- Monitor performance and adjust appetite, capabilities, and strategy to ensure consistent profit
Qualifications
- 7+ years of insurance or reinsurance experience
- Thrives in ambiguous and undefined environment with the ability to build process and structure to drive results forward
- In-depth knowledge of professional and management liability lines of business, including policy wording and structure, legal and regulatory issues, and underwriting process
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand data trends and insights, but also when to drive through intuition
- Excellent communication with the ability to simplify complex technical problems into straightforward action plans
- Leverages expertise to build trust and buy in to underwriting strategies across all levels of the organization
- Willingness to travel 10%-15%
The Company is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including New York, Princeton, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. The salary range posted below reflects market variations across various locations. This role is designated for either New York, Princeton, Philadelphia, or San Francisco and reflects multiple geographies. The offer will be adjusted per geography.
The base salary range anticipated for this position is $141,800-$226,100, plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
The salary estimate is adjusted to reflect the varying market conditions across different locations, with the with the higher end being more aligned with the NYC and San Francisco job markets. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
