The Opportunity

The U.S. Forestry Asset Manager will be a part of MEAG’s Global Illiquid Assets Forestry Team within the broader Natural Capital Team. The latter consists of 12 professionals, the majority of whom are based in Munich, Germany, with an existing team member located in the United States.
The successful candidate will be the second US-based hire and will work closely with colleagues in both the U.S. and Munich to drive long-term asset performance through the development, implementation, and monitoring of comprehensive business strategies across multiple assets.
This role will assist in the interface with the asset’s ownership, property managers, and third party partners. The Asset Manager will travel to assets to insure that strategic plans are being carried out at the property level.
Occasionally, the Asset manager will assist in acquisitions processes by supporting due diligence, and growth and yield and financial modeling processes. The US Forestry Asset Manager will also work in collaboration with the Munich team regarding overarching day to day business as well as strategy and management topics.
The job will require frequent overnight travel.
Responsibilities
In this position you will:
- Manage US forestry assets through the development, implementation, and monitoring of asset-level business strategies in order to drive long-term performance
- Coordinating with asset owners, property managers, and third-party service providers to ensure execution of strategic plans
- Monitor asset performance and support the implementation of business plans at the property level, including regular site visits
- Conduct financial analysis and modeling, including growth and yield modeling, cash flow projections, and scenario analyses
- Support due diligence processes for acquisitions and potential investments
- Collaborate with the Munich, Germany,-based team on overarching strategy, asset management topics, and portfolio-related initiatives
- Manage and coordinate external service providers to ensure operational and strategic alignment
- Prepare analyses, reports, and presentations to support decision-making and portfolio management
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Forestry required, with advanced degrees in Finance, Forestry or Agribusiness preferred
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in forestry, asset management, or related fields, with 10 years preferred
- Strong analytical skills with a solid understanding of applied forest finance
- Experience in financial and operational modeling, including growth and yield modeling, cash flow analysis, and scenario analysis
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively manage and coordinate external service providers in an assertive and structured manner
- Experience in forest operations and/or asset or portfolio management preferred
- Exposure to asset acquisition processes and due diligence activities
- Regional experience in the US South required, with additional exposure to the Pacific Northwest or Northeast considered a plus
- Solid understanding of accounting-related topics relevant to forestry and real asset investments
- High proficiency in data management, including data structuring and quality control for larger portfolios
- Independent and solution-oriented way of working with a process-oriented mindset and very high communications skills
The Company is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including remote. The salary range posted below reflects market variations across various locations. The offer will be adjusted per geography.
The base salary range anticipated for this position is $135,000 - $225,000, plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
The salary estimate is adjusted to reflect the varying market conditions across different locations, with the higher end being more aligned with the New York City and San Francisco job markets. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
