Position Overview

The Financial Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing accounting, reporting and plan/forecast of the entire investment portfolio, in collaboration with internal and external service providers and the Investment Officer. In addition, the Manager will be accountable for accounting and reporting of other non-insurance areas, such as pension, lease and intercompany.

 

Your Role:

  • Manage and oversee accounting and reporting (IFRS and STAT) and plan/forecast of the entire investment portfolio (fixed income and equities)
  • Serve as a primary liaison with MRAS Investment Accounting (internal Investments Shared Service Center) and BlackRock (external investment accounting service provider)
  • Own the management oversight function of the Investments Shared Service Center
  • Review and approve reconciliations, impairment analysis, fluctuation analyses, investment schedules, footnote disclosures and other key analyses/documents prepared by the Investments Shared Service Center
  • Liaise with the Investment Officer on executive reporting matters including the quarterly dashboard reporting and other relevant Investment Committee deliverables
  • Work closely with the service providers for successful implementation of IFRS 9
  • Oversee all aspects of cash accounting, including processing and reconciliations of all insurance (technical) and non-insurance (non-technical) cash and suspense accounts
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations and disclosures for other non-insurance areas, such as pension, lease and intercompany
  • Assist with accounting research and resolution on complex and new investment structures as required
  • Support function on all Investment Officer strategic projects, including restructuring of portfolios and alternative investment strategies
  • Oversee the calculation and bookings of AVR and IMR
  • Assist in various ad-hoc projects and requests
  • Assist in both internal and external audit requests
  • Ensure adherence to internal control compliance (ORCS and MARSOX)

 

Your Profile:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
  • CPA designation
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 3+ years of public accounting experience preferred
  • Investment accounting experience required
  • Preferred experience:
    • Insurance and/or financial services 
    • IFRS and Insurance Statutory accounting 
    • Pension, lease and intercompany accounting
    • SAP system
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills
  • Effectively works in a team environment and on an individual basis
  • Experience as a people manager with a proven record of successful leading, directing and coaching
  • High degree of attention to detail
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously by prioritizing tasks
  • Strong critical thinking skills and problem solving capabilities

For New York City based employees, the base salary range anticipated for this position is $139,620 to $161,665, plus an opportunity for an annual company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay.
