We are seeking a full time Regional Underwriting Manager East, Cyber & Tech to join the Munich Re Specialty Group Insurance Services division as a hybrid employee in our New York, NY office location reporting to Steve Pacheco, VP, Head of Cyber.

 

This is an opportunity to join a national Cyber Insurance Underwriting team in the US market – underwriting as a coverholder for Munich Re Lloyd’s syndicate – delivering cross industry and sector (SME/Mid Market/Risk Management) Tech E&O and standalone cyber insurance and risk mitigation solutions to clients in North America.

 

 

Job Profile

 

  • Manage the region’s overall portfolio ensuring adherence to rate, risk, growth and renewal underwriting guidelines and strategies
  • Achieve profitable portfolio and expense management
  • Structure tailor-made solutions by considering the underwriting guidelines and using underwriting knowledge and experience to win new business and retain existing
  • Monitor premiums, costs and claims ratios and take corrective measures if necessary to ensure long term profitability
  • Monthly activity/production reports to be provided to Product Lead
  • Maintain a broad network of brokerage and client relationships
  • Document and reviewing of underwriting files
  • Manage renewal portfolio by assigning accounts and roles to direct reports
  • Mentor and develop underwriters on underwriting philosophy, appetite, cyber security controls, rating, marketing, and systems
  • Monitor and supervision of new hires to ensure compliance with underwriting philosophy and consistency with the team.
  • Represent the company at client, broker meetings, industry conferences
  • Support the underwriting team as an internal resource on technical Cyber and Tech E&O exposures
  • Responsible for periodic training sessions on evolving Tech exposures to underwriting team
  • Complete peer reviews on peer underwriters to ensure adherence and consistency with the underwriting strategy

Job Requirements

 

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional lines/specialty insurance/risk management knowledge, ideally with a strong familiarity with Tech E&O, and Cyber risks.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree or certifications strongly preferred.
  • Management or team lead experience is a must.
  • Experience developing and maintaining a broad network of brokerage relationships, demonstrated leadership abilities, negotiation skills and strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • A strong understanding of best practices in Cyber security.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legal, regulatory and privacy requirements.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Proven track record as a technical underwriter.
  • Demonstrate high level of technical expertise and product specific (cyber/Tech E&O) knowledge.
  • Innovative/entrepreneurial thinker offering creative product ideas.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of MRSGIS‘s internal and external business partners.
  • Strong track record of working with brokers and clients, fostering strong relationships, and developing new distribution channels.

 

 

 

MRSGM N.A. is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including New York, NY. The salary range posted below applies to the Company’s New York, NY location. The base salary range anticipated for this position is $175,000 to $250,000. In addition, the Company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, 401k match, paid holidays, sick time, and paid vacation. The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position in New York, NY. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
