This role will be part of the Enterprise Architecture Tower for Group Technology (IT 1.5), which defines and drives the overarching Enterprise Architecture (EA) strategy to support business agility and growth across Munich Re Group. The Tower develops multiyear roadmaps covering platforms, products, digital experience, and organizational design—balancing strategic alignment and transformation goals. It ensures consistent policy, monitors architecture delivery, and optimizes the application portfolio to reduce costs and accelerate innovation. Additionally, the Tower provides SDLC tools and processes that enhance global developer productivity in a secure, compliant, and standardized environment.

The Head of Section EA Consulting leads a team that delivers strategic technology services across Munich Re. This includes Technology Strategy Consulting, which aligns platform, product, and technology strategies with business goals while optimizing costs through in-house expertise comparable to external consultancies. Architecture Governance ensures adherence to enterprise standards, enabling agility, vendor independence, and transformation success, while monitoring implementation for compliance. Technical Lifecycle Management maintains a detailed inventory of technology products and their interdependencies, maps them to business capabilities, and continuously monitors for changes and obsolescence to support informed decision-making in architecture and transformation planning.

 

Your job

* Lead a team of highly talented and motivated individuals and team leads to provide comprehensive set of services and capabilities for strategy consulting, architecture governance and technical lifecycle management

* Assess current state of Technical Lifecycle Management from a people, process and tooling perspective, revising processes and tools as necessary while deploying a resourcing model to ensure that all consuming business units can be supported through their portfolio transformation planning cycles

* Govern the transformation of our Application Portfolio Management & Technology Stacks globally via Architecture Governance and product implementation oversight functions

* Catalogue and monitor current state, risk and technical lifecycle of the application portfolio, including evolving dependencies and business capability delivery. Provide tools and processes necessary for accurate impact analysis and support the creation of unit specific Transformation Roadmaps

* Assess the global application portfolio, identify transformation and optimization opportunities and provide technology strategy consultation service to help with identifying direction of travel that aligns with business objectives as well as portfolio harmonization / standardization goals

* Continually update and modernize our Technology Strategy and Reference Architectures

* Reduce technical complexity, App footprint, drive standardization

 

Your profile

* Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science / Mathematics / Information Systems

* Advanced / Graduate degree in any of the above or Master of Business Administration preferred

* 15+ years Architecture experience in large Information Systems and Technology organizations, preferably in the Financial Services vertical (banking, insurance, general financial services).

* 5+ years’ experience as a manager or leader of teams of highly skilled team members in above domain(s)

* 10+ years’ experience formulating and delivering enterprise level technology strategies, preferably as a consultant

* Excellent Technology skillset across all capabilities

* Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including experience engaging company-wide audiences and C-level stakeholders

* Proven track record of managing and delivering to a defined budget

* Ability to master complex organizational dynamics and lead team in navigating the balance required when addressing potentially competing objectives

* Pronounced analytical and conceptual capabilities coupled with the ability to present complex situations in a clear and precise manner
