Reporting to the Head of Munich Re F&C North America, your primary responsibility will be to achieve target North America results for cedants and brokers by leading the Casualty Fac US team to be the reinsurer of choice for brokers and clients based on our financial strength, underwriting capabilities and client/market focus.
Responsibilities
- Implement F&C strategic plans to identify opportunities to expand the portfolio and risk appetite and leveraging underwriting expertise and data to drive optimal risk selection, differentiated capacity and increased efficiencies.
- Monitor Portfolio Performance and Market Cycle, in conjunction with the F&C Analytics Team, and steer the portfolio accordingly.
- Manage the underwriting process to ensure efficiency as well as underwriting and pricing integrity of the portfolio.
- Ensure underwriting practices are consistent with MR Group, MRF&C and US local guidelines, Best Practices and underwriting strategies.
- Identify deficiencies in underwriting, implement corrective actions and provide guidance/training for the development of underwriters.
- Delegate underwriting authority to staff, ensure underwriters have a clear understanding of underwriting and pricing guidelines and are proficient in the use of all applicable underwriting and pricing tools.
- Provide insight into the quantitative and qualitative analyses of results for the Casualty Fac Portfolio, in conjunction with F&C Operations, Reserving and FMR.
- Take the lead in creating solutions and resolving problems involving other functional units such as Business Development, Underwriting Support, Pricing, and GC/NA.
Qualifications
- 10 + years of experience in (re)insurance underwriting or broker community.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred, advanced degree a plus
- Demonstrated superior leadership and management skills
- Ability to think strategically and function tactically
- Underwriting expert level knowledge of applicable Casualty Lines of Business
- Ability to develop and execute plans and to provide strategic direction to the development and achievement of unit goals
- Exceptional communication skills that energize and engage clients and colleagues, with the ability to convey a vision and client-focused solutions
- High level of actuarial understanding and demonstrated competency using pricing tools
- High level of (re)insurance contract (terminology) understanding
- In-depth knowledge of the US insurance and reinsurance markets.
- Ability to explain complex transaction structures to both technical and non-technical audiences;
- Tech savviness and a willingness to experiment with and learn new technologies
- Willingness to travel up to 30%
The Company is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including New York City (NY), Princeton (NJ) and Chicago (IL).The salary range posted below reflects market variations across various locations. The offer will be adjusted per geography.
The base salary range anticipated for this position is $265,500 - $442,500, plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
The salary estimate is adjusted to reflect the varying market conditions across different locations, with the with the higher end being more aligned with the New York City job market. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
