Description: 

Corporate Actuarial’s Valuation team produces reserving and other financial metrics across IFRS, Solvency II, and US Statutory frameworks. The mission is to deliver timely, forward-looking, accurate, and actionable financial information for senior management, Finance, auditors, and regulators.

 

The Director & Actuary is a newly created role reflecting Munich Re Life US’s rapid expansion into the Longevity market. This leader will play a central role in shaping and scaling valuation and financial reporting for the Longevity, Annuities, and Group reinsurance portfolios across IFRS 17, Solvency II, and U.S. Statutory frameworks.  This role manages a team, implements and executes actuarial assumptions and models, improves processes, and delivers reports for management and regulators. The Director also partners in onboarding new deals and provides technical guidance on valuation methods and controls.

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Close Ownership

  • Prepare quarterly and annual valuations and financial reports for Longevity, Annuities, and Group business across IFRS 17, Solvency II, and US Statutory standards, supporting forecasts and planning.
  • Analyze movements and key result drivers, offering clear executive commentary on period changes.
  • Deliver timely, accurate, audit-ready valuations with strong Finance system reconciliations.

Model and Assumption Execution

  • Manage the maintenance and execution of longevity, annuity, and group valuation models for reporting.
  • Apply and  valuation assumptions, ensuring regular review, documentation, impact analysis and approval per internal guidelines and actuarial standards.
  • Ensure all reporting complies with regulatory and actuarial standards.

Planning, Forecasting & Business Partnering

  • Conduct projection exercises, sensitivities, and scenario analyses for Longevity, Annuities, and Group businesses to aid strategic planning and forecasting.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Actuarial, Finance, and business units on planning, capital initiatives, and in-force management actions such as risk transfers and treaty restructures.
  • Act as valuation liaison to Pricing, Business Development, Risk Management, and stakeholders for new or renewed treaties in Longevity and Group.

Controls, Process & Governance

  • Ensure robust governance and controls for all valuation processes, maintaining thorough documentation and execution records for audits.
  • Serve as the main valuation contact for external auditors and regulators on Longevity, Annuities, and Group blocks.
  • Enhance valuation controls and analytical review to support transparency and risk management, focusing on reserve movements, assumption changes, and management judgment.

Leadership & Talent

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing actuarial team.
  • Set objectives aligned with Corporate Actuarial priorities.
  • Foster strong cross-functional collaboration.

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • FSA required
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in actuarial valuation or financial reporting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IFRS, Solvency II, and US Statutory frameworks
  • Understanding of Longevity structures and/or Annuities products is an advantage
  • Familiarity with Group insurance products is an advantage
  • Strong technical proficiency with actuarial modeling platforms (GGY AXIS or similar) and advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to convey complex actuarial concepts and movements to non-technical stakeholders clearly and succinctly.
  • The ability to mentor developing actuaries and coordinate cross-functional initiatives.

For New York City based employees, the base salary range anticipated for this position is $185,000 - $258,000, plus an opportunity for an annual company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay.
