Duties: Develop and understand the analytical needs of business partners to identify optimal solutions. Conduct exploratory data analysis including evaluating data quality; identifying data anomalies and seeking necessary adjustments; transforming and cleaning data as appropriate from different sources and formatting for analysis and analyzing and extracting preliminary insights from data. Prepare and complete complex data analysis and predictive modeling utilizing various statistical methods including machine learning, neural nets and natural language processing. Document and communicate assumptions, results and alternatives to team members and business partners. Tackle loosely defined problems which require application of creative approaches. Generate actionable insights the business can use to increase premium growth, retention, and profitability. Identify data and operational issues requiring specialized analytics attention, data scrubbing and modeling techniques. Create and maintain modeling best practices and new techniques in coordination with business partners. Explain advanced analytic and modeling procedures in languages that non-quantitative colleagues, clients and stakeholders can easily find connections to. Understand customers' requests and hidden issues and explain possible solutions in their languages. Build business relationships in order to better understand insurance company processes and functions and to help promote analytics value proposition. Design visualization dashboards to deliver data driven insights for modeling solutions and internal reporting.
Requirements: Master’s degree Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science or a closely related field plus 3 years of work experience as Data Scientist or closely related role. Candidate’s prior work experience must include: Using Python, SQL, AWS, GCP Cloud Platforms, data visualization tools, such as Tableau, or Streamlit, to create intuitive dashboards; Hands-on experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g., Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow); Applied knowledge of statistical methods, including time-series analysis and experimentation; Using natural language processing (NLP) techniques or transformer-based architectures (e.g., BERT, GPT); Developing generative AI solutions, including large language models (LLMs), prompt engineering, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG); Using containerization tools like Docker and implementing CI/CD pipelines for scalable model deployment; and, Applied knowledge of Agile methodologies and experience leading cross-functional projects, with proficiency in tools like Jira or Confluence. May telecommute but must have ability to report to the New York, NY office 2 times per week. The base salary range anticipated for this position is $141,170 to $141,170 per year plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay.
