The Corporate Underwriting Expert – Casualty plays a critical role in designing, implementing, and advancing MRSNA’s casualty underwriting strategy across all liability lines of business. This role partners closely with casualty leadership and underwriting teams to translate strategy into actionable guidelines, tools, and frameworks that support disciplined growth, consistent profitability, and innovative risk solutions.
Working across General Liability, Auto, and Excess lines, the Corporate Underwriting Lead brings deep technical expertise, judgment, and influence to shape underwriting direction, manage complex referrals, and strengthen underwriting governance enterprise wide.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain underwriting guidelines and strategies across all casualty business units to support MRSNA’s strategic objectives
- Provide senior‑level oversight of complex referrals, including determining underwriter letters of authority for casualty lines of business
- Serve as a technical authority on coverage forms, exclusions, and exposure analysis, offering expert guidance to underwriting teams and leadership
- Establish and monitor underwriting decision frameworks, identifying trends, issues, and required underwriting actions
- Partner with cross‑functional stakeholders (including actuarial, claims, legal, and product teams) to identify and deploy product and service enhancements, including form language and modeling improvements
- Monitor portfolio performance and underwriting outcomes, adjusting appetite, capabilities, and strategy as needed to ensure consistent profitability and sustainable growth
Qualifications
Successful candidates will possess the following experience/skills/qualifications:
- 10+ years of insurance or reinsurance experience, with significant exposure to casualty and liability lines of business
- Deep knowledge of general and auto liability underwriting, including policy structure, legal and regulatory considerations, and underwriting processes
- Proven ability to operate effectively in ambiguous or evolving environments, building structure, frameworks, and processes where none exist
- Strong analytical capability, with the judgment to balance data‑driven insights and underwriting intuition
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical matters into clear, actionable guidance across all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated ability to influence, build trust, and drive alignment around underwriting strategy and discipline across diverse stakeholders
- Willingness to travel approximately 10–15% as needed
The Company is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including Philadelphia (PA), Princeton (NJ), or New York City (NY). The salary range posted below reflects market variations across various locations. The offer will be adjusted per geography.
The base salary range anticipated for this position is $185,800 - $296,100, plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
The salary estimate is adjusted to reflect the varying market conditions across different locations, with the higher end being more aligned with the New York job market. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
