Duties: Lead and manage reserve reviews performed for the Munich Re America Pooled Companies, with the decision-making authority to create, integrate and/or improve reserving processes and tasks. Act as the interface with all relevant internal, external clients and the auditor, develop these interfaces into trusted relationships, ensure requests are addressed in a reasonable manner and key insights driving actuarial decisions are well communicated. Head the communication, documentation and coordination of information, technical issues, and activities between actuarial departments, as well as with internal and external colleagues and clients. Oversee and direct the development of new actuarial and/or data analytics methodologies, products and procedures for the company, which require multiple resources including those who are not direct reports. Lead global projects to align local reserving process and systems with global products. Provide support to all business unit teams with actuarial-know-how, including but not limited to actual versus expected comparisons, automated reserving calculations, business segmentation. Lead the preparation/visualization of actuarial data to facilitate decisions and processes, and drive automation and complexity reduction. Contribute to quarterly and annual, internal as well as external (Statutory, GAAP, and IFRS17) reporting and closing with regards to the non-life reinsurance business. Provide guidance and training for actuaries and analysts within the department, while helping them formulate development opportunities. Understand and provide recommendations to management team on overall strategy/framework in support of the business goals of the group. Deliver actuarial presentations to internal and external clients and all levels of management as requested.

 

Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance or a closely related quantitative field plus 6 years of work experience (or a Master’s degree in same fields plus 4 years of experience) in an actuarial role. Must have FCAS certification (or certification from comparable actuarial society). Prior work experience must include: Reserving in Property and Casualty insurance; Development of actuarial projections using actuarial science and data science methods; Preparation and visualization of large datasets in dashboards; Preparation and delivery of presentations to internal and/or external clients and all levels of management as required; Peer review and mentoring of junior analysts; Training of internal staff and external clients regarding technical analyses and methodologies; and using statistical programming, BI software and/or databases (R, SAS or PowerBI). May telecommute but must have ability to report to New York, NY office 2 times per week.
