Position Overview

Proactively define and lead the North America Life marketing and communications strategy to support business growth, strengthen market positioning, and advance Munich Re’s strategic priorities.

This role serves as a strategic partner to senior leadership, translating business strategy into clear, compelling narratives, client experiences, and engagement initiatives across internal and external audiences. The position leads an integrated, multichannel marketing and communications infrastructure encompassing brand management, thought leadership, media relations, digital platforms, internal communications, and client engagement.

The role functions within a global matrix environment, reporting regionally to North America Life leadership while maintaining a functional reporting line to the Global Head of LH Marketing in Group Communications. This structure enables the role to influence and align both regional and global priorities drawing on Group best practices, shared tools, and global brand standards, while ensuring North America Life strategies are fully executed and achieved.

Through data driven insights and performance measurement, the role ensures marketing and communications efforts deliver meaningful business impact and long term franchise value.

 

Your Role:

Marketing & Communications Strategy Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, integrated marketing and communications strategy for North America Life that aligns with business objectives, growth priorities, and Group strategy.
  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy while ensuring consistency with Group Com global standards, frameworks, and guidelines.

 

Client Experience & Market Positioning

  • Lead the development of cohesive client facing narratives and experiences across the full client lifecycle, ensuring consistency and differentiation across all touchpoints—this includes bespoke Munich Re events and industry conferences.
  • Partner with Business Leads and Business Development to enhance how Munich Re engages priority clients and markets.

 

Thought Leadership & Executive Positioning

  • Define and deliver a focused thought leadership strategy that positions Munich Re North America Life and its leaders as trusted voices on the industry’s most relevant and complex topics
  •  Align content and external engagement with strategic themes, innovation priorities, and market needs.

 

Digital, Data & Channel Enablement

  • Oversee digital marketing platforms, owned channels, and content ecosystems, leveraging data and insights to optimize engagement and promote our services, products, and thought leadership.
  • Partner and align with global and regional teams to enable modern marketing tools and capabilities that support speed, scale, and personalization, while ensuring consistency with Group Com’s channel and tool infrastructure.

 

Media Relations, Reputation & Issues Management

  • Serve as the primary media spokesperson for North America Life, managing media relationships and proactively positioning business and Group priorities.
  • Lead reputation, issues, and crisis communications planning and execution in coordination and alignment with Group Com’s Media Relations team and standards.

 

Internal Communications & Employer Narrative

  • Provide strategic internal communications leadership across the U.S. and Canada, supporting leadership messaging, organizational change, and employee engagement—this includes town halls and philanthropic efforts.
  • Partner with HR and leadership to reinforce culture, values, and the North America Life employer narrative.

 

Measurement, Insights & Continuous Improvement

  • Define and track meaningful metrics to assess the effectiveness and business impact of marketing and communications initiatives.
  • Regularly report insights to senior leadership and adjust strategy based on performance and market feedback.

 

Team & Matrix Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and inspire the North America Life marketing and communications team while operating effectively within a matrixed global environment, reporting regionally to North America Life leadership while maintaining a functional reporting line to the Global Head of LH Marketing in Group Communications.
  • Foster strong collaboration and alignment across functions and regions to deliver integrated, high quality outcomes.

 

Your Profile:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing or Communications
  • 10+ years of experience leading modern, digitally enabled marketing and communications functions, preferably in Insurance/reinsurance industry
  • 10 + years of successful people management experience
  • Strong Media Relations experience including knowledge of regional and market-specific trade press
  • Superior communications skills (written, oral, listening, influencing, coaching, strategic communication planning)
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to align marketing and communications initiatives to business growth objectives.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver cohesive client experiences across the full client lifecycle, integrating messaging, content, and engagement across multiple touchpoints.
  • Experience leading change and transformation within complex, matrixed organizations, including modernizing processes, tools, and ways of working.
  • Ability to operate as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing strategic counsel on market positioning, reputation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Deep understanding of reputation, issues, and crisis communications, including preparedness, governance, and execution in highvisibility situations.
  • High level of comfort working in a matrixed environment
