As a Product Manager, it´s your responsibility to oversee and manage Business Intelligence products (esp. SAP BI products, i.e. SAP Business Objects, SAP Analytics Cloud). Your primary responsibility will be to ensure these products are scalable, secure, and cost-efficient, while also meeting compliance and operational standards. Leveraging your expertise in product management, you will guide the design and delivery of technology solutions that address customer needs and align with Munich Re Group’s architectural standards. In this role, you will oversee the creation and integration of solutions for large-scale, global projects and ensure a consistent product strategy based on business objectives.

The Product Manager reports to the Head of IT 1.6.1.1 BI & Datawarehousing.

 

Your Job

Product Management & Platform Development

  • Manage global IT products, particularly within the area of Business Intelligence applications (esp. SAP Analytics/Reporting product portfolio)
  • Plan and align product roadmap with solution architecture and business on basis of target architecture, including necessary technical and security refactoring
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and support platform solutions that are scalable, secure, and aligned with business processes.
  • Ensure the stable operation of products by supporting the setup and management of processes for run, support, incident management, and monitoring in line with business needs/SLAs.
  • Plan upgrades, and ensure products remain competitive and high-performing.

Financial Management & Cost Control

  • Manage product costs and budgets, ensuring efficient use of financial resources for maintenance and updates.
  • Help monitor expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and prepare financial reports.
  • Support software license management and ensure the optimal use of licenses needed for the product.

Compliance, Security & Documentation

  • Support the execution of compliance procedures to ensure products are running securely and in line with industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., VAIT).
  • Keep product documentation updated and assist in maintaining compliance with security and regulatory guidelines.
  • Contribute to security and compliance strategies, including conducting regular reviews and updates.

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure alignment with product goals.
  • Help manage and monitor external vendors to ensure their performance aligns with business needs and expectations.
  • Align and collaborate with other IT services to ensure integrated solutions and smooth operations.

Operational Support & Incident Management

  • Support the stable operation of platforms by assisting in incident resolution, monitoring product performance, and setting up improvement measures based on incident analysis (e.g., root cause identification).
  • Escalate and help manage major incidents, ensuring timely and effective solutions.

Continuous Improvement & Training

  • Encourage efficient work processes and continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the creation and delivery of training materials for internal teams and external partners.

Marketing & Proof of Concept (PoC) Support

  • Help promote platform offerings through presentations and demos.
  • Provide support for Proof of Concept (PoC) initiatives, including assisting with design, implementation, and evaluation.

 

Your Profile

  • University degree, preferably in computer engineering/IT or similar qualification
  • Several years of experience in product management or requirements engineering, ideally in a global Finance/Insurance or regulated industry 
  • Track record in managing business relationships and delivering business value by identifying and evaluating business challenges from a high level perspective 
  • Innovation mindset and high persistence in driving opportunities for technology related improvements in the organization 
  • Deep knowledge of the SAP BI & Analytics product portfolio (i.e. SAP BO, SAP SAC)
  • Excellent collaboration and communications skills 
  • Proven ability to manage and track product costs and budgets to agreed baselines 
  • Demonstrated ability to work globally across entities and cultures and to ‘get things done’ despite silos or regional differences in process or approach  
  • Thought leadership – able to monitor market trends and to guide creative thinking on future technology capabilities which will help increase the business value of Munich Re.
