Within RIA, the Global Middle Office Centre (GMOC or RIA1.3) delivers the technical accounting and claims handling for the non-life reinsurance business worldwide and for Great Lakes Insurance SE. Regional Middle Office Centres (RMOCs) in Munich, Madrid, Johannesburg, Princeton and Singapore with a total headcount of 350 act under one umbrella in an integrated way.
The GMOC is establishing a support functions unit for technical accounting and claims handling in Mumbai. This is run operationally by a third party vendor (Accenture) with a headcount of 20 at present. After a 1 year long exploration phase (project Saathi), which has proved the viability of the setup, a permanent structure will now be established in RIA 1.3. This shall facilitate the preparation, transition and operations of the task-based support. It includes project management, steering and reporting, coordinating technical requirements in technical accounting and claims handling and change management. The plan is to scale the support functions prospectively including all RMOCs worldwide.
For the Head of Operations Support Functions we are looking for a qualified and committed professional who will ensure a high quality of service, facilitates collaboration across different locations in a virtual setup and drives the scaling of the support functions. The successful candidate will be an authentic leader with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
The reporting line will be to the Global Head of Middle Office Centre (RIA 1.3 ML2). The position is limited until the end of 2027.
Your job
- Further build up, stabilize and scale the support functions setup in the GMOC
- Further develop strategy to leverage support functions in future years
- Steer support functions unit based on KPIs and quality checks
- Act as bridgehead between RMOCs, third party provider, support functions team in India
- Oversee the preparation, transition and operations of the task-based support
- Actively design governance, steering and reporting of support functions
- Identify areas suitable for handling by support functions, develop roadmap for rollout activities
- Manage preparation of handing over tasks to support functions: documentation, training, quality checks
- Agree on the finalized transition timelines and manage transition of defined tasks
- Initiate standardization of process handling where required for support functions
- Oversee performance reviews, give input to service enhancements, do ongoing contract management with third party provider
- Promote required tech support to be rendered for support functions
- Actively drive change management and communication required for support functions in RMOCs, esp. Munich
- Lead a small team of experts in Munich and one at MR India Branch
Your profile
- An inspiring team player with strong leadership skills reflecting the Munich Re leadership values

- Track records in organizational and process design with sound understanding of applicable automation solutions
- Proven skills in the management of stakeholders and facilitating trustful and constructive collaboration
- A high degree of independence and drive to take on responsibility
- Relevant professional qualification (i.e., university degree or successful business training as an insurance practitioner or specialist) with many years of professional experience in Finance areas
- Profound knowledge of reinsurance technical accounting and claims handling processes as well as the underlying technical systems (esp. FS-RI)
- Strong customer orientation and solution-oriented understanding of tasks as well as the ability to present complex topics clearly
- International experience with excellent command of English and ideally also German
