Description: 

The incumbent of this role manages a technical accounting (TA) and/or claims handling (CH) portfolio and supports Operations NL within the RI CFO unit. This includes responsibility for clients and complex accounting and/or claims handling topics. 

The Senior actively contributes to process improvement and simplification initiatives (within the business unit and across different business units and interfaces) and participates in quality assurance (QA), quarter closing activities and other special projects within the MR Group.

The incumbent has also the responsibility for specialist subject(s) and activity(ies). The candidate builds up, maintains and passes on expertise whilst supporting staff who are functionally assigned to him/her in their development/within their areas of responsibility. 

Your Role: 
Key tasks

  • Provding guidance to staff in the area of technical accounting, claims handling and questions regarding the relevant systems, as well as verifying completed work
  • Coordination of onboarding of new colleagues
  • Assuming overall responsibility for the work area of the staff s/he supervises (for example responsible for a company code), incl. overview of the portfolio of assigned staff (e.g., special features, volume)
  • Approval of transactions within set authority levels
  • Entering and updating complex treaties and losses in FS-RI
  • Assisting the manager with his/her disciplinary responsibilities
  • Assisting with or assuming a topic owner role in RIA (if necessary on a global level)
  • Contributing actively to and/or leading cross-unit projects and working groups
  • Systematically initiating and implementing process simplifications and optimisations
  • Knowledge transfer, holding internal and, if necessary, cross-unit training courses on specific RI and RIA topics, if necessary in a foreign language and in an international context
  • Providing support during client visits for RIA issues
  • Performing quarter-end tasks such as monitoring and comments (GLISE; other teams only on request) 

Control Functions: 

  • Ensuring consistency of account settlement and claims handling in the unit
  • Ensuring, actively monitoring, and further developing portfolio management in accordance with QA guidelines (e.g. spot checks, dead losses, outliers, ciphers)
  • Ensuring the assigned client portfolio aligns with expected service standards and delivery benchmarks
  • Monitoring and tracking of KPIs (overdue balances, unmatched cash, etc.)  for the portfolio/markets responsible

  • Preparing and performing accounting reviews at external clients’ place

Interfaces: 

  • Constructive contribution to updating and optimizing internal processes, GLISE systems, interfaces in close cooperation with GPO functions, including further automation of processes
  • Working constructively with Claims Management units, RIA units (incl. Life; with MR Munich and across the RMOCs), General Accounting & Finance, and, if necessary, colleagues from regional Underwriting, Client Management and further interfaces (e.g., CR)
  • Central contact within the CFO unit for the portfolio on matters relating to annual financial statements, cash flow, statistics, active account management, FAB, etc.

Your Profile: 

  • Bachelor/Master degree in economics/finance/mathematics/law with relevant professional experience in accounting, or completed professional qualifications in insurance or accounting with several years of relevant professional experience
  • In-depth knowledge of primary insurance and / or reinsurance
  • Sound knowledge of the principles of accounting
  • Understanding of actuarial processes, as well as methodology for reserving and their parameters
  • Good knowledge of clients/market/industry
  • Experience and accuracy in dealing with figures and data, as well as excellent analytical skills
  • Full professional working proficiency in English and preferably working proficiency in another foreign language

  • Sound Knowledge of RIA Global Processes as well as internal control system (ICS) and the impact of compliance regulations on technical accounting and claims handling
  • Expert in the relevant systems (e.g., FS-RI, FS-CD, FAB, MR Correspondence, EDWH, RMnL, BuPa, ECON, eBF) and workflow tools (e.g., CREW, CAPF)
  • Advanced usage of Microsoft 365 applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Viva Engage, SharePoint, and ideally PowerBI
