HSB (UK and Ireland) consists of the parent company HSB Engineering Insurance Limited (HSBEIL) together with its two UK subsidiaries, HSB Engineering Inspection Services Limited (HSBEISL); and a regulated MGA, MD Insurance Services Limited (MDIS), which trades as Premier Guarantee or LABC Warranty.

 

Collectively HSB is the UK and Ireland’s only group of companies solely focused on providing specialist engineering and technology insurance solutions and risk focused inspection services and assessments to its customers.

The is a key role to develop and implement strategic growth plans in collaboration with the Head of Region, Strategic Account Managers, and Head of Broker Distribution. This is a market facing relationship and underwriting role with primary focus on the acquisition of new business, which involves building market relationships across an assigned panel of brokers. Working in collaboration with Strategic Account Managers to achieve sustainable continued profitable growth and revenue in line with business ambitions

 

Your Role

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Ensuring alignment with HSB’s business growth ambitions; assist growth strategies to successfully maximise new and existing business opportunities and increase market presence.

 

• Effectively utilise internal business data sources and industry market intelligence to provide insightful data to inform strategic revenue and customer growth planning activity and support future underwriting activity

• Continuously explore new revenue channels and potential markets, being innovative in approach to identify diverse and exciting new opportunities.

• Continuously monitor and review client activity to enable strategic focus on profitable accounts

• Influence, negotiate and build relationships with key internal and external influencers, ensuring engagement and ‘buy in’ to enable delivery of strategic growth plans and maximise potential underwriting opportunities.

• Adopt a collaborative mindset/approach with Strategic Account Managers to enable increased lead generation

• Work collaboratively with Product Leads and Underwriting Managers to ensure business acquisition is efficient and meets the customer requirements.

• Support and enable nationwide collaboration to maximise cross selling, increase retention and rates to ensure achievement of segment and business wide targets.

• Contribute to effective loss ratio control by ensuring adherence to business strategies.

• Develop and maintain constructive and profitable relationships with customers through regular contact, visits and in line with specific customer strategies • Ensure all issues are resolved promptly ensuring ‘Customer First’ approach

• Attend relevant industry and market specific events, conferences and networking activities, raising HSB’s profile and increase market presence.

• Attend broker / strategic partner meetings as the technical underwriting lead and deliver presentations and training workshops as required.

• Undertake and lead on any team or business wide projects as required 

 

Knowledge Leadership

 

• Increase the technical and trading capability of the underwriting team, act as a technical mentor and referral point for all policy classes within the team.

• Work collaboratively with the Leadership Team to create a culture of high performance within the team, leading by example in adhering to the HSB behavioral standards.

• Maintain accurate records within CRM systems (Dynamics 365), populating with all client interactions and activities to enable and support future opportunities and pro-active cross-segment working.

• Maintain and implement all necessary procedures and processes to ensure internal service standards and FCA Compliance.

• Attend training to ensure development of required knowledge and skills to enable effective undertaking of the role. 

 

Your Skills and Profile 

 

• Ability to convert data insights into revenue and growth plans

• Commercially astute with business planning experience 

• Demonstrable knowledge/experience of Machinery Inherent Defects Insurance (MIDI)

• Demonstrable knowledge/experience of Machinery Breakdown & Business Interruption

• Thorough understanding of UK Insurance market

• Demonstrable experience of ensuring excellent customer relationship management

• Pragmatic decision maker with analytical and reasoning skills

• Excellent interpersonal and negotiation and problem solving skills 

• Collaboration and teamwork 

• Excellent written and verbal communication

• Strong trading capability – commercial awareness, negotiation skills, ability to build strong broker relationships

• Strong level of technical underwriting expertise gained in relevant insurance environment
