Senior Risk Engineer – Property
Munich Re Specialty was formed as a stand-alone division in 2023, and brings together the wider Munich Re group’s primary specialty business units. Complementing an already strong presence in the UK and the US, Munich Re Specialty – Global Markets (MRSGM) has been tasked with executing a wider plan to build a broader European footprint. This work will start in Spain, expanding on Munich Re Specialty’s existing business in the UK, Ireland and Germany.
In order to successfully establish and profitably grow our Property business in the Spanish market, we are looking for a Senior Risk Engineer (Property), Spain to join our team.
We are searching for an exceptional individual with a proven track-record of Loss Control Engineering and with sound knowledge in the assessment of industrial risks.
An entrepreneurial spirit is a must, with a high degree of comfort in building a business presence.
Responsibilities:
- Advise and support underwriters in the technical assessment of insurance risks
- Independent planning and execution of customer visits worldwide to analyze inherent risks and protective measures as well as documentation of relevant aspects in survey reports (on-site surveys)
- Evaluation of external survey reports based on Munich Re standards (desktop reviews)
- Follow-up of the risk-related development of important clients (Account Engineering)
- Training and advising external and internal clients and providing them with technical support on a wide range of industrial topics
- Internal communication on risk engineering topics, e.g. seminars, workshops, papers
- Collaboration in internal working groups and projects, participation in the development and revision of MR-internal risk engineering standards and tools
- Independent continuous self-learning regarding trends and developments in the relevant industries to support Munich Re in forming opinions on emerging technical issues with an impact on insurance business (e.g. IoT, new battery technologies, AI, etc.).
Knowledge and Skills
- Loss Control Engineering experience
- Successfully completed engineering degree, preferably with a focus on mechanical or chemical engineering, fire protection or loss prevention.
- Several years of experience in loss prevention.
- In-depth expertise in one or more of the following areas: Insurance, claims handling, risk assessment, protective measures and protection concepts
- Strong ability to analyze and evaluate technical processes and their economic backgrounds
- Talent for developing holistic approaches and abstract reasoning, including the ability to communicate complex content in an easily understandable way to internal and external non-specialist audiences.
- Strong service orientation, high level of social competence and ability to work in a team, efficient task prioritization and self-organization
- Fluency in both Spanish and English.
- University degree and/or relevant professional qualification
