This role will be part of the Investment & Asset Management Tower for Group Technology (IT1.19), responsible for ensuring the availability, reliability, and maintenance of all investment and asset management systems, applications, and platforms. The Tower manages the seamless transition of new systems or projects to steady-state operations and takes ownership of key business relationships, providing accurate metrics on uptime, issues, and resolutions.

As an IT Solution Architect within our Big Data, Analytics, and AI unit, you will play a key role in shaping the architecture of advanced data-driven solutions. You will translate business requirements into robust system and technology architectures that align with our enterprise standards, support scalable data ecosystems, and enable innovation in analytics and artificial intelligence.

Your Job

  • Map business and functional requirements to detailed system and technical specifications, ensuring alignment with Munich Re enterprise architectural plans.
  • Design and implement technology solutions with a strong emphasis on big data platforms, data analytics architectures, and AI/ML ecosystems.
  • Create detailed component-level specifications and translate them into implementation-ready designs.
  • Maximize the return on technology investments by evaluating emerging technologies (e.g. realtime data ingestion, data lakehouses, MLOps, real-time analytics, generative AI) and advising on adoption strategies.
  • Balance functional requirements with service quality, data integrity, operational resilience, and systems management needs.
  • Achieve the balance between functional, service quality and systems management requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with data engineers, data scientists, and analysts to ensure solution designs support advanced analytics and AI-driven business use cases.
  • Act as a trusted technology advisor for both business and IT counterparts.

Your Profile

Education & Background

  • University degree in Computer Engineering, IT, or a comparable field (preferred).
  • 4+ years of experience delivering IT solutions in the financial services industry.
  • Hands-on experience as an application developer is an advantage.

Core Technical Skills (Mandatory)

  • Big Data & Analytics Stack: Databricks, PySpark, Delta Lake
  • Programming & Scripting: Python, Bash
  • Cloud & Data Integration: Azure, Azure Data Factory
  • DevOps & CI/CD, Git, Docker
  • Databases: Oracle / SQL

Architectural & Domain Knowledge

  • Strong experience designing solutions in big data ecosystems (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Databricks, Snowflake) and building complex data pipelines.
  • Deep understanding of analytics architectures, including BI platforms, data modeling, integration frameworks, and streaming architectures.
  • Solid knowledge of AI and MLOps platforms (model deployment, training pipelines, feature stores, monitoring).
  • Proven understanding of enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, cloud architecture standards).

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, business-oriented language.
