This role will be part of the Business Technology Tower for Group Technology, responsible for delivering mission-critical, data-driven, and digital solutions across all business segments and subsidiaries. This includes AI decision support tools, generative AI models (such as Large Language Models), and other data-driven solutions. Business Technology drives the digitalization efforts for Munich Re Group, leading innovation and technological transformation.

Munich Re Business Technology (BT) works closely with clients and business leaders to drive this transformation and digitize insurance and reinsurance. It acts as a digital enabler inside the Munich Re group with focus on digital insurance platforms and ecosystems, advanced analytics and artificial intelligence. In BT, the Data and AI Products team focuses on design and delivery of advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence products. The team partners with all BT units to shape a holistic service offering and aligned product roadmaps based on concrete business demands. This includes identification and shaping of business demand, definition of product roadmaps and managing delivery in long-standing product teams. Our technology stack is based on a modern, cloud-native setup including Azure infrastructure, data and AI services (Data Lake, AI foundry, OpenAI), Databricks and adjacent technologies like Kubernetes and Kafka.

 

As a Solution Architect, embedded in a team of cross functional specialists, you will lead the solution design of data and AI products to maximize the return on technology. You will navigate business and technology teams through the opportunity space of emerging versus established technologies and Munich Re Group architectural standards. Your stakeholders include central data and AI teams of Munich Re, ERGO and MEAG as well as the respective roles in the business units on a global level. You ensure close alignment and collaboration with other teams in BT, especially with data and AI products and data platforms.

 

Your Job

  • Design of data and AI solutions and mapping business requirements to systems/technical concepts to ensure alignment with the enterprise architectural plan
  • Support the strategic direction of technology investments to help develop the enterprise architecture and maximize the return on technology investment
  • Monitor the technology market in data and AI to identify transformative technologies for testing and introduction into the Munich Re solution space
  • Oversee the adherence to appropriate standards (performance, monitor capability, audit acceptability, secure environment). Guiding solutions through the appointed Solution Architecture Forum, as required
  • Achieve the balance between functional, service quality and systems management requirements. Design for operational readiness and scalability
  • Communication of architecture goals to business and consulting during the development of product requirements
  • Analyze and design domain, application or application architectures in alignment with IT enterprise architecture standards and patterns

 

Your Profile

  • University degree in Computer engineering / IT or similar qualification
  • 4+ years of experience in delivery of data and AI solutions, preferably in the financial services industry
  • Experience in designing and developing solutions (Solution Development life cycles, and the application of IT risk & security considerations)
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following technical domains: Cloud native development programs, advanced analytics, traditional or generative AI, development of digital productscloud security and/or DevSecOps, privacy and data protection, development of or maturity of IT platforms and standards (e.g. shared services)
  • Preferably, you are already ITIL or SAP certified or have the readiness to pursue one with our support  
  • Strong solution strategy ability, including a demonstrated ability to communicate solutions and their benefits to stakeholders in IT and business unit
  • Organizational change management capabilities promoting collaboration, accountability and overcoming silos
  • Thought leadership – able to monitor market trends and to guide creative thinking on future technology capabilities which will help increase the business value of Munich Re.
