This role will be part of the Business Technology Tower for Group Technology, responsible for delivering mission-critical, data-driven, and digital solutions across all business segments and subsidiaries. This includes AI decision support tools, generative AI models (such as Large Language Models), and other data-driven solutions. Business Technology drives the digitalization efforts for Munich Re Group, leading innovation and technological transformation.

Advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence are focus areas of BT. The team Data & AI Strategy and Portfolio acts as a primary contact point for business units to drive topics in this area from ideation to successful value delivery. The team partners with all BT units to shape a holistic service offering and aligned roadmap based on concrete business demands. This includes identification and shaping of business demand, definition of implementation options and setting up project or service delivery for data analytics and AI.

 

 

As Senior Technical Data Specialist in Data & AI Strategy and Portfolio, you will work with a multidisciplinary team of project managers, data specialists, software architects and developers to plan and implement our strategic portfolio of data and AI use cases across primary and reinsurance. Your stakeholders include central data and AI teams of Munich Re, ERGO and MEAG as well as enterprise architecture and business towers. You ensure close alignment and collaboration with other teams in BT, especially with data and AI products and data platforms

 

Your job

  • Design, develop, and implement scalable and secure cloud-based architectures, ensuring high availability, performance, and maintainability (Azure cloud technologies, Databricks, Kubernetes, etc.) for a variety of business use cases.
  • Ensure that architecture and implementation comply with industry standards and regulations and integrate best practices for data privacy and security.
  • Take ownership of data architecture and governance by cooperating with business and BT stakeholders to successfully lead IT projects to completion and business value delivery.
  • Work closely together with Operations teams to help improve service quality and ensure timely delivery.
  • Contribute to the evolution of BT services by keeping up to date with the latest developments and best practices in the industry.
  • Use your proven technical experience in the data analytics & AI space to act as a thought leader on advancements in data analytics and AI in our BT strategy, especially regarding the business value in insurance.
  • Establish a customer-centric, agile mindset, understanding the various business needs and how BT offerings and capabilities can deliver value.
  • Serve as an escalation and arbitration point for customers of BT in the area of data and AI projects to ensure high customer satisfaction and successful delivery.

 

 

Your profile

  • Master’s university degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in IT architecture with focus on data solutions and AI technologies
  • Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills allied to the ability to present complex situations in a clear and understandable way.
  • Strong background in data analytics, including machine learning and generative AI.
  • Experience in enterprise-ready IT infrastructure and compliance implications.
  • Very good knowledge of the processes in software development (agile project methodology, source code management, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automated testing, CI/CD.
  • Very good Azure (architecture) technology skills in multiple Azure PaaS - e.g. Azure Data Factory, Azure Kubernetes Services, Azure Event Hub, Azure SQL Server, Azure Datalake Store, Azure Blob Storage, Power BI, Azure Search, Azure ML, Databricks, Cosmos DB.
  • Good Azure architecture networking / identity management skills – e.g. VNets, Azure AD, integrating various Azure technologies according to IT security requirements.
  • Good skills in IaC development using Powershell / ARM Templates, Terraform or Azure DevOps (Build Pipelines, Release Pipelines).
  • High level of flexibility and willingness to master a wide range of complex tasks.
  • Fluent spoken and written business English.
