Senior Change & Release Manager - Focus: Underwriting Applications (m/f/d)*

This role will be part of the RI Property & Casualty Tower for Group Technology, responsible for delivering business value by managing IT products and executing change projects for the RI P&C business. The Tower maintains key relationships with units involved in underwriting and claims management, and oversees IT products for Munich Re Trading Limited, which develops risk transfer solutions. Additionally, it collaborates closely with finance and digital innovation teams to combine services and data, supporting the expansion of business use cases.
The section IT Business Solutions RI P&C delivers business value through the management of IT products and the execution of strategic change initiatives. Our team owns and manages the key relationships with Munich Re's global Non-Life Reinsurance business units, including Underwriting and Claims Management, representing the full spectrum of IT service functions.
To complement our team of recognized IT experts, we are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Change & Release Manager. In this role, you will coordinate and govern change and release activities across a broad application landscape within the UWPF and TOP Program. Acting at the intersection of business and technology, you will establish transparency, ensure delivery readiness and enable reliable production deployments across multiple projects, teams and platforms. This position will be located in Munich.
Your Job
- Define, establish and continuously improve the overall Change & Release Management strategy across the UWPF Program and TOP landscape.
- Own and coordinate release planning across a broad portfolio of applications, projects and delivery teams, ensuring alignment of scope, timelines, dependencies and deployment activities.
- Act as the central coordination point for release calendars, rollout planning, release readiness assessments and production deployment activities.
- Drive cross-project alignment between business stakeholders, product owners, project managers, architects, development teams, testing teams and operations.
- Ensure compliance with Munich Re Change Enablement standards and governance processes, including CAB preparation, approvals, auditability and documentation requirements.
- Facilitate Go/No-Go decision processes and provide transparent risk assessments for major releases and deployments.
- Identify, assess and mitigate cross-project risks, dependencies and resource conflicts affecting release timelines or production stability.
- Coordinate deployment, cutover, rollback and hypercare activities across multiple applications and environments.
- Define and monitor KPIs covering release quality, deployment success, lead times, change effectiveness, incidents and operational stability.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for release management, deployment automation and DevOps practices in cooperation with engineering and platform teams.
- Support roadmap planning and program execution by ensuring that change and release activities are aligned with business priorities and strategic objectives.
- Contribute to the evolution of the Target Operating Platform (TOP) by establishing scalable and sustainable release and change management practices across interconnected products and services.
Your Profile
- Several years of experience in Change Management, Release Management, Deployment Management or Program Delivery within complex enterprise IT environments.
- Proven track record in coordinating releases across multiple applications, teams and stakeholders in large-scale agile organizations.
- Strong understanding of software delivery lifecycles, DevOps practices, deployment processes and operational service management.
- Experience working in agile delivery models such as Scrum and SAFe, ideally in multi-team and multi-vendor environments.
- Ability to balance strategic governance responsibilities with hands-on operational coordination and execution.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to align diverse business and IT interests in a pragmatic and solution-oriented way.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, release management processes and modern CI/CD environments.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills combined with a structured and risk-aware working style.
- Experience in planning and coordinating complex releases involving multiple dependencies, shared environments and business-critical applications.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, from technical experts to senior management.
- Good understanding of Reinsurance, Underwriting and/or Claims business processes, with a specific understanding of Underwriting processes being highly beneficial for this role.
- Experience working in large transformation programs or platform modernization initiatives is considered a strong advantage.
- University degree, preferably in Computer Engineering, IT, Business Informatics or a comparable qualification.
- Willingness to work regularly from the office and collaborate in person with colleagues, approximately three days per week.
- Fluent command of Business English; German language skills are a plus.
