For our Modelling and Analytics team based in Munich we are looking for a Meteorological Risk Consultant. In this exciting role you will utilize your skills and passion to work with our experts to develop and implement physical risk services to Munich Re’s Location Risk Intelligence platform. As a successful Meteorological Risk Consultant you need to have a deep understanding of physical climate risks and outstanding interpersonal skills to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders.
Your Responsibilities
- Design and enhance models for quantifying physical risk with focus on meteorological events (tropical storms, extratropical storms, severe convective storms)
- Develop and apply innovative approaches for natural-hazard risk assessment to support global resilience
- Integrate scientific research and climate change scenarios into hazard models
- Derive and update vulnerabilities in Munich Re risk models
- Drive research collaborations with leading scientific institutions and professional consultants
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the Munich Re group in multidisciplinary environment
Your Profile
- Degree in (Climate-)Physics, Meteorology, Civil/Environmental Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline
- Several years’ experience in natural-hazard modelling with focus on meteorological risks, scientific programming and GIS
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB for scientific computing and geospatial data analysis
- Good knowledge of statistical methods
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Well-developed ability to work in a team, as well as good presentation skills and client focus
- Very good communication skills in English and German
