The Data and Analytics division (DAA1) is Munich Re's hub for Data, Analytics and AI. It drives Munich Re’s Data and AI strategy, is responsible for the key enablers data, skills, governance and technology, and coordinates Data, Analytics and AI projects to create value for our core business.

 

The Central Analytics department (DAA1.3) drives strategic initiatives in Data Analytics & AI, enables business & central functions through training and technology, supports Data Analytics & AI use cases, and further develops the Insurance Analytics Platform that provides scalable Data Analytics & AI solutions according to the needs of our core business functions.

 

We are looking for a new Head of AI Governance and Strategy (DAA1.3.2) who is responsible for the tasks of the AI Governance Function and manages the continuous adaptation of the AI Governance related activities as the topic progresses, drives the further development of the AI strategy and coordinates strategic initiatives, like the Data & Digital Academy, for the RI and Specialty Group. The role requires strong experience in the definition and implementation of an efficient and effective AI governance approach in a complex, global context combined with a high level of strategic thinking, a profound understanding of Data Analytics & AI methods & technology as well as practical business expertise in (re)insurance.

 

Your Job

 

  • Manage the AI governance and strategy team incl. continuous staff development, planning and talent management
  • Manage all tasks of the AI Governance Function as outlined in the AI Governance Framework and the continuous adaptation of the AI Governance related activities as the topic progresses
  • Ensure remaining deliverables of the implementation of the AI Governance Framework are developed
  • Oversee Munich Re’s position towards AI regulations and influence the respective lobbying through the relevant associations
  • Ensure further development of the data governance approach for the Munich Re Data Lake and respective oversight (especially in the self-service space)
  • Represent Munich Re as spokesperson for the area of responsibility towards external stakeholders incl. regulatory bodies
  • Drive the further development of Munich Re’s AI strategy in line with the overarching business strategy (especially Ambition 2025+) incl. top management communication
  • Initiate and manage time-critical, complex and international strategy projects in the context of Data Analytics & AI
  • Manage the Data Analytics & AI community and organize knowledge sharing and exchange
  • Steer the Data & Digital Academy and organize knowledge sharing across the organization

 

Your Profile:

 

  • University degree in data science, statistics, stochastics, information technology, or an equivalent area of studies
  • Deep understanding and several years of experience in the application of modern data science and AI techniques in (re)insurance as well as of underlying technology
  • Deep knowledge of the international landscape of AI regulation as well as broad overview of state-of-the-art AI and data governance approaches
  • First-hand experience in the definition and implementation of AI governance approaches in a complex, global context; knowledge of the concrete Munich Re context is a plus
  • Longstanding and profound business understanding and first-hand experience in the (re)insurance business context as well as strong actuarial knowledge
  • Outstanding conceptual and analytical skills, strategic and company-wide thinking on micro- and macro-level and experience in senior management / board-level communication
  • Strong leadership skills in alignment with Munich Re’s leadership values as well as experience in leadership and senior stakeholder management
  • Track record of successfully leading critical projects in an international setting; proven ability to deliver results quickly
  • Very high level of commitment, self-responsible working style, and eagerness to lead a team in an international and highly dynamic environment
  • Excellent command of English; knowledge of German is a plus
