Senior Underwriting Assistant 

 

We are currently looking for a Senior Underwriting Assistant to work with us on a full-time basis in London, reporting into the Head of Underwriting Delivery.

 

You will lead and develop a newly created team of Underwriting Assistants in the Underwriting Delivery Department, which is part of Operations overseeing the day-to-day activities within the team ensuring an excellent service is provided to our underwriting colleagues and the wider business.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist in setting, monitoring and maintaining the operating and performance standards of the team.
  • Workflow allocation and monitoring. Overall responsibility to ensure all core capability tasks are processed on time and to the required quality standards.
  • Oversee quality control processes, including thorough examination of processed tasks.
  • Manage training, development and performance of direct reports. Provide leadership, management and motivation and develop skills, competencies, knowledge and support career progression of direct reports.
  • Act as the primary contact  for internal queries, specifically from Underwriting teams.
  • Serve as primary contact for operational challenges, delivering prompt solutions while maintaining customer satisfaction.
  • Identify means to continuously improve the service delivery performance. Seeking opportunities to adopt new technology to maximise productivity.
  • Responsible for measuring and evaluating operational service delivery across identified core capabilities and adherence to SLA’S and KPI’s through effective monitoring, escalation and mitigation.
  • Where data quality or performance issues are identified, conduct root cause reviews and pro-actively suggest solutions / additional controls to eliminate issues.
  • Build and maintain a strong relationship with all departments a service is provided to, specifically Underwriting. 
  • Performance reporting of services provided to internal customers in a regular schedule.
  • Ensure that company procedures and systems are followed and maintained, as per procedures and compliance manuals.
  • Provide support in respect of new projects or initiatives, as and when needed.
  • Any other ad-hoc tasks, as necessary.
  • Help drive forward good Conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for customers / policyholders.
  • Understand all appropriate lines of escalation and the responsibilities of the Product Conduct Risk Strategy Group (PCRSG), Underwriting & Claims Sub Committee (UCSC) , ExCo and Board for Conduct Risk.

Knowledge and Skills

 

  • (Preferred but not essential) Proven leadership of an Underwriting Service Delivery / Underwriting Support or Operations team. Track record of maintaining service levels, service improvements and quality demonstrated through KPI’s.
  • Ability to prioritise work and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Insurance knowledge, specifically the Lloyd’s market is a must.
  • Data driven approach to measuring service and ability to analyse trends in data.
  • In-depth knowledge of resource planning, escalation procedures and other disciplines related to service delivery.
  • Proven communication skills and stakeholder management with Underwriters and Senior Leaders.
  • Strong coaching, motivating, and people development skills.
