Senior Technical Architect

We are currently looking for a Senior Technical Architect to be based in London on a full-time basis, reporting into the Head of Subsection.

 

IT Business Solutions delivers business value through the management of IT products including implementation of change projects in a disciplined, business focused, engaged and methodical way to Munich Re Speciality Group (MRSG) and its associated business units

 

As a Technical Architect, you’ll have the ability to make a significant impact to the organization by supporting the growth strategy and competitive positioning of MRSG and its associated business units.

 

You’ll manage, create, iterate, and maintain technical and data architectures. 

You will be accountable and drive a high-quality technical system design and development which supports system performance at optimal operational cost under the circumstances of flexibility and future change.

 

Responsibilities

  • To assume technical lead role in implementation projects and guide the work of the team.
  • Responsible for the technical architecture across a suite of custom business applications and off the shelf products.
  • Develop flexible, adaptable, modular, and reusable architectures in collaboration with business stakeholders and IT teams while ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Develop the standards and patterns for application development across a series of different technology disciplines including: quality profiles, coding standards, configuration standards and unit testing.
  • Review high-level designs with technical leads and developers, review code, enforce best practices, and enforce performance testing to deliver efficient and performant applications.
  • Stay current on, evaluate and recommend the use of cutting-edge technologies and methods, considering their technical pros and limitations. Leverage market and technology trends to identify the business benefits of alternative technical solutions.
  • Support the requirements gathering process to right-size initiatives and solution strategy.
  • Collaborate with development teams and assist with the application of Agile and DevSecOps techniques within architecture and designs.
  • Create comprehensive architecture specification documents and other required documentation.
  • Help maintain a business unit-level repository of architecture assets (platforms, services, APIs, technical debt, etc.) and promote reuse across the organisation.
  • Align with and adhere to Munich Re global governance processes and tools while maintaining a key focus on design patterns and technology standards.
  • Act as a liaison between IT teams to bring them together, mentor, share knowledge, solve problems, design common reusable assets and maximise the use of existing capabilities and frameworks.
  • Work closely with project managers and delivery leads to identify key design activities and owners while ensuring alignment and feasibility.
  • To coach, mentor and collaborate with technical subject matter experts to develop technology architecture that enables and drives new business capabilities and operating models.
  • To assess the state, risk and technical viability of the application portfolio, including how well it meets business needs, and determine the options for remediation.

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong project delivery background (ideal 7 years of hands on experience in system design, systems integration or software development as a senior developer / architect )
  • Strong knowledge of the processes of the entire software development and product life cycle: DevOps principles, patterns, UML, agile development practices
  • Deep technical knowledge in web-based systems architecture, service-based architecture, enterprise application architecture, cloud architecture as well as experience managing expectations when balancing alternatives against business and financial constraints. 
  • Working Knowledge in Database technologies MS SQL and Oracle
  • Lead end to end design which includes integration with other services (e.g. Microsoft Power Platform, Azure APIM)
  • Track record of successful implementations that delivered value to the business, resulting in measurable business outcomes  
  • Evaluate and design data collection, data staging, data movement, analytics delivery and data quality
  • Lead and guide the ETL developers in data profiling, source target mappings, ETL development, SQL tuning, optimisation and testing
  • API development, JSON, micro-service architecture, API Gateways, SOA frameworks, ESBs, ETL pipe-lines, etc.
  • Proven track record of DevSecOps practices incl. Build-/Release-/Continuous Integration tools and frameworks such as Azure DevOps, GitHub or Jenkins
  • Knowledge of on-premise and cloud-based solutions
  • Knowledge in the use of Workflow solutions
