Financial Reporting Accountant

 

We are looking for a Financial Reporting Accountant to provide cover across two separate paternity leave periods of approximately 3–4 months each.

 

The Financial Reporting Accountant will take ownership of all financial reporting deliverables, both internal and external, for their allocated legal entities, and to support the Sustainability & Financial Reporting Manager with the day-to-day organisation of the team. They will liaise with other Finance teams, business functions and the external auditors to ensure that the financial information produced is ultimately fit for purpose. They will also exhibit the highest levels of technical excellence and promote professional development, acting as a role model for more junior members of the team and wider Finance department.

 

Responsibilities

Internal Reporting

  • Group Reporting - Ownership of quarterly reporting of actuals, forecasts and plans for allocated companies within the UK group to the ultimate parent company, Munich Re.
  • Audit Files - Ensure quarterly audit files are produced, reviewed and signed off. Includes full coordination of audit file preparation, ensuring that all schedules are completed on time, fully referenced to supporting material and ultimately provides transparent and financial information for each balance on the general ledger.
  • Financial Reviews - Financial due diligence analysis of coverholders, brokers and delegated authorities' financials to assess financial suitability for business.
  • Management information - Prepare relevant financial information / summaries for management as timetabled or requested.

External Reporting

  • Statutory Accounts - Preparation of financial statements and accompanying narrative for allocated legal entities, liaising with auditors for clearance and sign off.
  • Regulatory Returns - Reporting of financial data required by regulators (FCA, CBI, etc.), including RMA returns and Financial Resilience Surveys.
  • Other Returns - Submission of various surveys and returns to bodies such as the ONS.

Technical Excellence and Organisation

  • Manage and adhere to the quarterly reporting timetable, including general time management, organisation of meetings, etc.
  • Understand how financial information is produced, including key assumptions and areas of judgement.
  • Scrutinise all processes and assumptions on an ongoing basis with a ‘continual improvement outlook’ and proactively engage with relevant stakeholders to improve where opportunity exists.
  • Champion professional development by providing on-the-job training for junior team members and across other Finance teams.
  • Provide effective cover for areas within the team, as delegated by the Sustainability & Financial Reporting Manager / Head of Regulatory Reporting.

Other

  • Support ad hoc requests as required.
  • Ensure that company procedures and systems are followed and maintained, as per procedures and compliance manuals.
  • Help drive forward good conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for customers / policyholders.

 Skills and Experience

  • Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent).
  • Sound understanding of IFRS and UK GAAP.
  • Knowledge of the Group reporting process.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex financial information to different stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
