Data Business Analyst

 

We are currently looking for a Data Business Analyst  to be based in either Manchester or London to join us on a full time basis with hybrid working.

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analysis within the insurance industry, with a focus on specialty insurance lines. The role will involve collaborating with various stakeholders to gather, analyse, and interpret data, and to provide valuable insights that will support strategic decision-making and operational efficiency. As a Data Business Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions, focusing on data-driven insights and analytics. The successful candidate will have a strong technical data background, a deep understanding of the specialty insurance domain, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into actionable data solutions.

 

MRSGM is at the beginning of an ambitious data journey and this is an exciting time to join the organisation and to be a part of it realising its digital, data and analytics ambitions. The Central Data Office will include a transformation and strategy team, which this role will be part of. The role focuses on the harmonisation of the data into a central data and analytics platform and will work alongside IT technical architects and engineers to implement strategic priorities.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand and document data requirements for various projects and initiatives within the specialty insurance domain.
  • Work closely with underwriters, actuaries, and other business units to capture and analyse data needs from various source systems (Policy, Claims , Revenue etc.)
  • Data flow mapping from source to target system data models.
  • Conduct thorough data analysis and profiling to identify data quality issues, anomalies, and patterns, gaps.
  • Provide insights and recommendations for improving data quality and integrity.
  • Understanding of conceptual, logical, and physical data models and database schemas.
  • Monitor, validate and reconcile the data collected on an ongoing basis, establishing internal confidence in the accuracy of the data available
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications for data solutions, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and organisational standards.
  • Collaborate with IT and the Central Data Office functions to support the design and implementation of data models, ETL processes, and data warehouses/lakes.
  • Support the Data Governance function in the develop and enforcement of data governance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry regulations and internal standards.
  • Participate in data quality and compliance audits as needed.
  • Create comprehensive documentation for data solutions, including data dictionaries, business glossaries, process flows, and user guides.
  • Conduct training sessions for end-users to ensure proper understanding and utilization of data solutions.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends related to data analytics and specialty insurance.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to the evolution of data-related capabilities.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Hands-on data business analysis experience, within Insurance (London Market experience a significant advantage).
  • Proven experience in being the business and data translator in supporting business and IT projects from a data requirements perspective, ensuring that these help to build towards the overall target state data architecture.
  • Proven experience working with data in an agile and dynamic team, with experience working with relational databases (hands on intermediate to advanced SQL coding experience is essential and experiences writing in Python preferred but no essential)
  • Curiosity in examining complex SQL data sets with experience in reconciliation and data lineage / traceability.
  • Experience in interpreting technical coding (such as SQL and Python) into business language and terminology.
  • Demonstrated experience in translating business requirements into data requirements and collation of these to inform the future direction of data capabilities
  • Work in support of Analytics & Insights colleagues including awareness of areas such as Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, etc.
  • Supporting Data Governance colleagues in areas such as metadata management, data lineage, data audits and general data quality improvement
  • Cloud based technologies preferrable Azure Databricks.
  • Strong desire to learn and grow into a wider range of the above disciplines. Extensive stakeholder management ability with experience in maintaining tact in high-pressure situations.
  • Have an outcome and solution mode mindset as well as being able to identify opportunities to optimise and simplify existing data related processes.
  • Understanding and knowledge of system development life cycle methodologies (such as agile software development, rapid prototyping, incremental, synchronize and stabilize, and DevOps)
  • Ability to estimate the financial impact of technology alternatives in terms of benefit and cost
  • Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of existing, new and emerging technologies that enable and drive new business designs and models
