Description: 

Munich Re Retakaful, part of Munich Re, the world’s leading reinsurer, is looking for a Senior Actuarial Analyst  (Pricing) to help drive our growth in the global Family Retakaful market.

 

In this role, you will combine strong technical actuarial expertise and commercial understanding. You'll work across diverse markets, collaborate with regional cross-functional teams, and act as a key bridge between actuaries, underwriters, client managers, and external clients.

 

You will report to the Pricing Lead, Munich Re Retakaful and will be based in Kuala Lumpur.

 

Your Role

 

Pricing & Client Quotations

  • Quotation Delivery: Partner with the Pricing Lead, Chief Commercial Officer, Pricing Analysts, and Client Managers to deliver timely quotes and pricing reports that support company profitability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with Underwriting, Claims, Pricing, and Client Management teams to ensure risk analysis is comprehensive and incorporates multiple perspectives.
  • Governance & Compliance: Ensure all quotes align with internal Munich Re guidelines, risk appetite parameters, and regional government and regulatory requirements. Liaise with regional pricing teams to secure necessary approvals.
  • Regional Knowledge Exchange: Work alongside Senior Actuaries across the region (including Munich Re Singapore) to share best practices, exchange insights, and refine pricing approaches.

 

Research & Experience Studies

  • Incidence Rate Research: Conduct research to derive incidence rates for core risks, including Mortality, Critical Illness, Disability, and emerging product covers.
  • Data Analysis & Insights: Perform comprehensive experience studies by gathering internal and client data, conducting analyses, documenting findings, and translating results into actionable insights.
  • Pricing Basis Development: Use experience study results to update existing pricing bases or establish new ones across key Family Retakaful markets, supporting the company’s long-term competitiveness and profitability.

 

Treaties & Special Projects

  • Treaties: Draft or review treaties for clients, ensuring Munich Re’s key interests are protected while maintaining fairness for clients.
  • Support ad-hoc business initiatives: including reviewing statements of account, monitoring treaties and experience, and contributing to automation projects that enhance operational efficiency.

 

Your Profile

  • 5 to 7 years of relevant actuarial or pricing experience in the Life (Re) insurance or Family (Re) takaful industry.
  • Practical understanding of products and the regulatory/insurance environment in at least one Takaful market.
  • Advanced MS Excel proficiency is required; familiarity with VBA is a strong advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to changing business priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Proactive and results-oriented, with the ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex actuarial concepts to non-actuarial stakeholders.
