Description: 

We are looking for a CHIEF COMMERCIAL OFFICER (CCO) who will lead a local team of experienced actuaries and Client Managers to deliver timely, risk-adequate and competitive quotations and propositions for our retakaful clients.

You will be responsible for Family Retakaful business activities including quotation governance (pricing, experience analysis, basis development), business development (client management, business planning, business strategy) and developing new propositions (new products and services including partnerships with external providers).

The CCO will report directly to the CEO of Munich Re Retakaful (MRR). The position will be based in Kuala Lumpur and requires regional travel.

Your Role

Business Development

  • Work with the CEO to develop client and business strategies for each market and work with Client Managers to execute these appropriately.
  • Manage a team to maintain and build close relationships with key client stakeholders. You will establish connections with senior staff and leverage on these connections to source and close business opportunities.
  • Establish a professional network in the industry, preferably across the various relevant markets.

Quotation Governance

  • Quote delivery – manage team appropriately to ensure quotes are priced and delivered to clients within appropriate timelines.
  • Pricing process – manage team and uphold standards such that all quotes are priced according to Munich Re guidelines and all internal requirements are adhered to.
  • Actuarial control cycle – support experience analysis of key treaties and monitoring of key metrics/risks such that management is aware of emerging experience and appropriate management actions can be taken.
  • Basis development – responsible for research and development (R & D) activities to ensure that pricing bases are updated regularly and are in line with emerging experience and market developments.
  • Monitoring – work with valuation team to ensure regular monitoring of key treaties, lines of business and to ensure assumptions are appropriate. Liaise with the valuation team to ensure financial results are well understood and can be explained to senior (regional) management.
  • You will be ultimately responsible for Actuarial governance aspects relating to pricing, experience analysis, basis setting and financial management of Family Retakaful business, to ensure that all risks are appropriately considered, and our targets are being met.
  • You will also be ultimately responsible for managing internal approvals for all Actuarial governance aspects such as new pricing bases, quotes that fall outside the branch authority, etc.

New Propositions

  • Work with a regional team of product specialists to develop new propositions aligned with Munich Re’s risk appetite, business and client strategy, and internal requirements, while ensuring relevance for the markets we serve and provide solutions for. Understanding of products sold within the relevant markets is essential.
  • A strong understanding of Munich Re’s range of services is essential, with the ability to leverage these to develop propositions that deliver value to clients and generate sustainable value for Munich Re.
  • You will need to establish good relationships with key stakeholders such as the Regional Propositions team, Regional pricing team as well as underwriting and claims functions within the regional office.

Your Profile

  • Fellow of a recognised actuarial body or equivalent (FSA, FIA, FFA or FIAA).
  • More than 15 years of actuarial experience – pricing experience in a (re)/insurance company or (re)/takaful operator is essential. Relevant experience in (re)/takaful industry will be an added advantage.
  • Strong marketing, business development and good stakeholder management, internapersonal skills are essential.
  • The ability to strike a balance between technical and commercial aspects of a decision is critical.
  • Solid understanding of products sold within relevant markets.
  • Experience in leading diverse and engaged teams is essential.
