The Facultative Team is responsible for underwriting and ensuring the profitability of Munich Re’s single-risk facultative reinsurance portfolio of Property and Engineering in Sub-Saharan Africa.  Within this unit, the Property Facultative Team comprises a team of professionals focused on managing client and market relationships, generating business opportunities, pricing and underwriting risks, and monitoring and optimising the performance of the portfolio across the region.

You will provide technical underwriting leadership across the facultative property portfolio, driving sustainable, profitable growth and portfolio optimization across Sub-Saharan Africa. Working closely with clients, brokers and internal stakeholders, you will actively influence underwriting strategy, mentor colleagues, and  advance innovation and continuous improvement to strengthen Munich Re's market position.

Your Role:

Portfolio and underwriting leadership

•    Underwriting facultative property business, including assessing risk, evaluating and providing reinsurance terms and conditions in accordance with the applicable underwriting authority, guidelines, internal directives, targets and client strategies
•    Developing and growing a sustainable profitable book of business and exploiting new business opportunities through active development of relationships with clients and brokers in South Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and in major international markets

Business Development & Market Management

•    Develop and execute market growth strategies, portfolio analytics and performance monitoring, quality assurance and technical consultation for your allocated markets

Technical Excellence & Thought Leadership

•    Organizing and conducting seminars/workshops for clients and internal staff, providing clients with value-added services
•    Assisting the treaty team in evaluating special treaty acceptance requests from a technical perspective, as and when required

Strategy & Continuous Improvement

•    Conducting market analysis for your allocated markets, including emerging risk trends
•    Maintaining and expanding your technical knowledge

Your profile:

•    University degree in Business, Statistics, Insurance, Finance or a related field
•    Minimum 5 years' experience in facultative / single risk (Re)Insurance. Experience in international markets and with complex facultative placements is preferred
•    Strong understanding of facultative underwriting, catastrophe exposures, portfolio management and reinsurance structures
•    Conscientious business acumen, creativity
•    Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills
•    Good IT and analytical skills
•    Proactive and commercially minded approach with a demonstrated ability and motivation to identify and secure business opportunities
•    Demonstrated commitment to learning and progress
