Title:  Senior Engineering Underwriter

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Facultative Underwriter for our Engineering Facultative Team reporting to the Head of Facultative Underwriting.  The Facultative Team is responsible for underwriting and ensuring the profitability of the single-risk facultative reinsurance portfolio for Property, Engineering, and Casualty risks in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. 

Your Role:

•    Develop a sustainable book of facultative engineering business within the markets of Sub-Saharan Africa, including assessing the risks, evaluating and providing reinsurance terms and conditions following the applicable underwriting authority, underwriting guidelines, internal directives
•    Drive and shape the portfolio following the applicable portfolio targets and client strategies
•    Develop new business through senior and strategic relationships vis-a-vis clients and brokers, both local and international
•    Provide support to Operational Management and technical / mentorship of the engineering team and junior staff members 
•    Provide advice to Treaty Underwriters
•    Organize and conduct seminars/workshops for clients and internal staff, providing clients with value-added services
•    Organize and conduct surveys of large/complex engineering risks for clients, including preparing internal and external reports (if required)
•    Execute portfolio performance and market analysis
•    Maintain and expand technical and market know-how for all stakeholders

Your profile:

•    BSC Engineering, plus 5 years practical field experience
•    Minimum of 10 years professional experience in Engineering (re)insurance with sound technical underwriting abilities and know-how.
•    French language knowledge preferred
•    Preparedness to travel with a passion for conducting business in Sub Sahara Africa. 
•    Capabilities and passion to conduct and solicit business opportunities.
