The Casualty & Credit Team develops and ensures the profitability of several reinsurance product lines such as Motor, Liability, Credit and Surety, Personal Accident in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.
The Casualty Treaty Team is a dynamic multi-disciplinary team of professionals from different backgrounds, including Actuarial, Data analytics, Legal, Insurance, and Risk management. This team tackles the opportunities and challenges associated with pricing, assessing and managing the Companies Motor, Liability, and Personal Accidents treaty portfolio. You will joining this team and will be reporting to the Operational Manager for Casualty, Credit and Bonds.
Your Role:
You will:
• Assess, underwrite, quote and negotiate proportional and non-proportional Casualty Treaty business in the Sub Saharan African markets.
• Review, design and negotiate contract wordings and conditions according to MR underwriting guidelines, legal and regulatory frameworks and our client’s needs.
• Implement the particular business line strategy independently, by underwriting new and existing business, in accordance with the MRAB underwriting authority.
• Cooperate with client management to ensure that optimal service levels to clients are maintained including meeting clients and/or negotiating treaty terms and conditions
• Build relationships with clients and brokers, representing Munich Re as an expert and trusted partner.
• Contribute to group internal and industry expertise through participation in working groups, projects, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Guide junior underwriters, by conducting on-the-job training, and exposing them to client engagements, deliverables and functions, in order to develop their underwriting skillset and technical competency.
Your profile:
• University degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Insurance, Law, Finance, or a related field.
• 3 - 5 years' experience in treaty underwriting, with focus in casualty treaty and reinsurance markets.
• Demonstrated commitment to learning and progress.
• An independent working style, with a conscientious and team-focused approach.
