Munich Re Hong Kong Branch, part of Munich Re, is recruiting for a Senior Underwriter, Property Treaty to 1) ensure underwriting excellence in property treaty business; 2) support business generation for targeted segments; 3) proactively contribute to Munich Re’s Ambition 2030.

 

The position is based in Hong Kong and reports to the Head of Property Treaty, Greater China.

 

 

Your Role

 

  • Assure the quality of technical risk reviews and underwriting decisions, including non-traditional reinsurance products. This includes premium calculation and the stipulation of reinsurance conditions in accordance with underwriting guidelines, internal rules, authorities, targets, and client strategies for respective programs.
  • Prepare for and lead negotiations with cedants and brokers in coordination with Client Management for the respective programs.                                   
  • Act as key interface with Client Management in servicing client accounts and identifying new business opportunities; provide technical solutions and support claims management activities.
  • Develop non-traditional reinsurance solutions, where appropriate, primary insurance concepts in cooperation with specialists across Munich Re.                 
  • Influence underwriting quality and strategy within the area of responsibility. Support underwriting reviews, including cross-departmental reviews.                          
  • Support the Greater China Head of Property Treaty in strategy development and actively contribute to planning and performance monitoring process.                             
  • Design and deliver seminars and workshops for internal and external training programmes and actively participate in market events.           
  • Assume special assignments, including heading and supporting departmental and cross-departmental working groups and projects.           
  • Prepare technical publications including MR brochures and publications, articles for insurance journals, client publications and other technical materials.
  • Main Interfaces: Underwriting (Facultative & Treaty), Client Management, Accounting, Claims, Reserving.

 

 

Your Profile

 

  • University degree, preferably in economics, a scientific discipline or a related field; recognized insurance qualifications would be  advantageous.            
  • Minimum 8 years of underwriting experience, with in-depth knowledge of reinsurance and primary insurance in the property line of business.                
  • Creativity and proven experience in developing non-traditional products, as well as a strong understanding of the market and regulatory developments.                     
  • Expert knowledge of property treaty underwriting and rating tools, supported by strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation and negotiation skills, combined with strong teamwork capabilities and a willingness to share knowledge.
  • Proficient in English; fluency in Chinese preferred.
