Description: 

Manages US tax compliance activities for HSB Group and its subsidiaries.  This includes but is not limited to sales, use, insurance premium, property, and other indirect taxes.  Reviews and ensures tax returns and payments are filed accurately and in a timely manner.  Facilitates internal and external tax audits.  Collaborates with external tax consulting and/or attorney to research, analyze and interpret new or revised US indirect tax laws and regulatory announcements to determine the potential impact on HSB Group and its subsidiaries.  Coordinates with external tax attorney to review contract verbiage and confirm tax provisions are correct and follow jurisdictional requirements specifically in a indirect tax compliance perspective. Identify continuous improvement opportunities and execute on recommendations.

 

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent experience is required.

  • Certified Public Accounting (CPA) certification or Master’s degree is preferred.

  • 8+ years experience within the insurance industry alongside indirect tax laws, regulations, and proven experience managing complex indirect tax issues and audits.
  • 5+ years experience in a tax management role demonstrating leadership responsibilities.

 

Knowledge and Skills 

  • Working knowledge of electronic tax research services.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to maintain thorough support documentation.
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to evaluate data.
  • Strong time management skills to meet deadlines with strict time parameters.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Experience with SALT software (Vertex, Avalara, TriTech Premium Pro/Stratus, OneSource).
  • Experience with ERPs and billing platforms (PeopleSoft, D365, SAP BO, Shopify, Chargebee).
  • Excellent communication and literacy skills.
