Description: 

Oversee the operational and financial integrity of the investment accounting and reporting function for HSB.  Responsible to ensure that the investment accounting records (under several different accounting basis) are complete, accurate and in compliance with IFRS, US Statutory and US GAAP bases of accounting and that investment results are reported timely.  Also responsible for the completion of the quarterly investment reports for the Board of Directors and Investment Committee. 

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting/Finance is required
  • Master’s degree is preferred
  • 9+ years of investment accounting/financial reporting experience
  • 5+ years of managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience including influencing senior management/critical stakeholders experience
  • 7+ years insurance, reinsurance, and/or financial services industry experience.
  • 4+ years of professional experience in asset or investment management and a good understanding of the way the US and Canadian capital markets operate
  • CPA preferred

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong technical accounting and analytical skills, having a very good understanding of  IFRS (IFRS 9), Solvency II, and Statutory investment accounting and reporting principles
  • Solid understanding of the impact of investments on rating, solvency and the balance sheet (IFRS/GAAP/Statutory) of an insurance company
  • Ability to research accounting issues and clearly articulate possible impacts/solution
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing demands and targets and to change workflow processes efficiently and effectively
  • Clear, influential, and convincing communication skills in an international environment, in a confident manner with internal and external partners, working with all levels of management; ability to influence and to get results within a global organization
  • Poised, works well under pressure and reacts well to change and shifting priorities
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage and challenge staff
