Specialty Lines Underwriter Lead

Key contributor to emerging energy property team and lead for engineering lines and risk underwriting team. Responsible for underwriting corporate property programs focusing on large and complex commercial and specialty lines, including energy clients. Develops and determines terms and conditions applicable and considers risk-sharing acceptances. Partners with leadership to oversee portfolios to ensure profitability. Responsible for account underwriting, presentation, sales and revenue growth for assigned clients primarily in the renewable and conventional energy segment. Acts as a training mentor for team members and works with Underwriting, Business Development, Operations, and Engineering. Responsible for clients with highly complex risks. 

Education and Experience

• Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Risk Management or Finance or equivalent work experience
• 10+ years relevant experience, preferably on an Underwriting team
• 5+ years casualty and/or property underwriting experience, preferably within the large property space
• Experience with single carrier and shared & layered business
• 3+ years broker relationship energy experience
• P&C, Mechanical or Facilities Engineering experience is a plus
• CPCU, ARM, ARe or other industry designations are a plus

Knowledge and Skills

• Excellent underwriting, marketing and analytical skills
• Strong knowledge of energy all-risk underwriting.  Ability to understand machinery and equipment exposures and coverages
• Strong knowledge and understanding of structure and layer programs including quota-shares and excess placements
• Working knowledge of CAT modeling including RMS
• Knowledge of Energy, Renewable Energy and Green Energy a plus
• Strong knowledge of various policy forms and coverages in the marketplace
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Able to efficiently manage and prioritize workload
• Relationship building skills in the marketplace, including broker relationships
• Effective leadership skills
• Good communications skills (verbal and written)
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Highly skilled negotiator
• Solid training/mentoring skills
