The role is responsible for developing and implementing client strategies, managing business relationships, and growing business through our existing portfolio of products.  In alignment with underwriting and claims, responsible for engaging with clients/client company managers and building trustful relationships in the development and increased attachment of profitable PRS business.  Drives the discipline of product management throughout the Portfolio Risk Solutions (PRS) organization.  Works closely with partners across the enterprise, works to advance the discipline of product management across PRS by driving consistency and usage of: data and analytics; pricing discipline; innovation; service integration and research. 

Works to design and develop client strategies relative to product attachment to profitably grow PRS’ existing book of business.  Partnering with client company managers and portfolio risk analysts, driving the key growth initiative of attachment requires a deep understanding of our client’s business and ensuring alignment with underwriting strategies.  This role requires the ability to foresee long-range outcomes and oversee the development of suitable strategies to achieve the outcomes.

Works closely with experts in HSB’s data and reporting organizations as well as with the Global Corporate Underwriting and Global Product Owner organizations to lead the strategy and execution of advancing the product management discipline within PRS.  This role will also include the discipline of product research in order to provide competitive insight across HSB’s product portfolio. These functions will also support our partners in the Custom Accounts Division. 

 

In addition to these business development and strategy responsibilities, the role will maintain Product Management Lead responsibilities for assigned product(s).  This role is the external face and expert to Client Company partners for their assigned Product and has overall responsibility for strategy, profitability, growth, market competitiveness and industry visibility for the HSB Assumed product(s).  The role is responsible for understanding the evolving product landscape and adjusting PRS’s strategy and product offerings accordingly.

 

The role is the highest level of product level underwriting authority (Cure1) and product expertise for PRS. Directly responsible to lead the product line from the overall health of the line and book profile while supporting the products, services and enhancements.  This is accomplished by demonstrating coverage expertise and communicating the value of our products to existing and prospective clients, a critical component in keeping HSB’s Assumed products relevant with our Client Companies.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, preferably in Product Management, Underwriting, Business Development, Claims, Marketing, Business Administration or Risk Management or equivalent work experience.
  • An advanced degree (Masters/MBA) or Insurance accreditation (CPCU) is desirable
  • 10+ years experience in underwriting or other relevant insurance experience, preferably experience of commercial, personal lines primary property casualty insurance and reinsurance coverage, concepts, principles, exposures, processes and knowledge of occupancy exposure
  • 5-10 years of product management experience
  • Demonstrated deep expert understanding of underwriting products, methods and risk management and ability to apply them to solve problems and drive profitable results from past experience.
  • Experience in a role that required strong analytical analysis and problem solving to influence change.
  • People leadership experience desired.

  • Deep knowledge of property casualty insurance
  • Uses advanced logic to make highly complex judgments with a noticeable impact.
  • Demonstrates ability to foresee long-range outcomes and develops suitable strategies that requires the most difficult decisions
  • In depth knowledge of applicable product (property, equipment breakdown, cyber, identity theft insurance, employment practices liability, etc..)
  • Experience conducting competitive research in the P&C insurance space.
