AVP & Assistant Controller

Responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of financial results, monthly, quarterly and annual close activities and reporting. In addition, assist with financial analysis, planning and forecasting and support with business transactions. Lead an accounting staff, providing leadership and accountability for accounting and financial reporting. Provide support to the Controller, Chief Accounting Officer (CAO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and parent company finance teams and subsidiaries and will be relied upon to provide financial insights from a corporate perspective to help drive strategic decisions and work on special projects as needed.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field is required or equivalent work experience
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Tax desired
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
- 10+ years of accounting and financial management experience with a combination of Big 4 public accounting and industry experience
- 5+ years in the insurance industry preferred
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong financial analysis skills
- Superior knowledge of statutory accounting principles, generally accepted accounting principles, and international accounting/financial reporting standards
- Ability to assess, monitor, and ensure compliance with technical accounting requirements, including the implementation of policies and procedures as appropriate
- Strong leadership and communication skills and deep knowledge about the financial aspects of the industry
- Effective problem solver, who anticipates issues, and seeks out and analyzes information collaboratively to propose solutions
- Strong time management skills
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at once. Preferably someone who has worked on process reengineering /improvements initiatives, including implementing new systems, process and controls
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Skilled in PowerPoint, Excel and Word
- Ability to influence key stakeholders. High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation
