American Modern Insurance Group is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team! This position plays an integral role in the completion of the department’s responsibilities related to one of its fastest growing segments, specialty clients program business, and the preparation and analysis of critical metrics within the Company’s contingent commission plans and commission incentive plans. The Accountant is involved in all aspects of accounting for these areas, starting with the initial onboarding of new accounts all the way through to preparation and analysis of financial results.
The Staff Accountant is responsible for financial reporting processes supporting the specialty insurance business including preparing and/or reviewing the department’s complex accounting entries and developing analytics related to our program partners. This role will also assist in the documentation of accounting policies, procedures, and controls and will monitor compliance with internal controls. The Staff Accountant will also be involved in projects related to onboarding new business, building systems that will transform and automate workflows within the program business workflows, as well as in other Accounting department related initiatives and projects associated with the financial close process, controls, and results analytics as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for accurate and timely journal entries and analysis of key program business partners financial results by preparing and reviewing accounting entries and financial analysis.
- Assist in coordinating general accounting tasks to ensure adequate training, appropriate process documentation and completion of work by scheduled deadlines.
- Optimize efficiencies within the workflows and the reporting of financial results for Specialty Clients business.
- Prepare and/or analyze commission and contingent commission results and share the results with Sales and other stakeholders to ensure the plans are supporting the business objectives and incentives in place.
- Prepare and/or review the accrual entries that support the contingent commission monthly accruals within the financial reporting close timelines to finalize financial reporting to Regulatory Authorities, International Parent Company and Internal Management.
- Prepare and/or review the contingent and incentive commission payments and statements ensuring the calculations are supported by the contract terms and all data sets for the contractual calculations are validated from source systems.
- Monitor, prepare and/or review more complex account reconciliations and gets involved in ad hoc analyses, accounting research, financial statement preparation and review, and other accounting initiatives and projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent work experience
- CPA or Insurance Certification (CPCU, ARE) preferred
- GAAP, Statutory, and IFRS accounting knowledge and on the job experience with recording complex ledger transactions, developing and/or reviewing complex reconciliations
- Experience using Microsoft products and other BI data analytical tools, such as COGNOS Advance, Oracle Sequel, Power BI or similar programs
- Experience in establishing/documenting end to end business/accounting processes
- Detailed oriented, organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task work
- Ability to data mine and work with large data sets to organize and create complex queries, tables and calculations that support contract language
- Ability to collaborate and share information with stakeholders based on analysis completed
