Corporate Underwriting

The Corporate Underwriting Intern will gain hands on experience in analyzing complex datasets, developing data assets, and creating impactful visualizations using PowerBI. The intern will work closely with our Senior Analytics Consultant to support data-driven decision making across the organization.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain reports, dashboards, or visualizations to monitor performance metrics.
  • Support analysis requests from leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Present findings and project outcomes in a clear, professional manner to stakeholders.
  • Assist the team by performing tasks designed to gain an understanding of the Property and Casualty marketplace while providing information/research to the team.
  • Participate fully with other team members by actively asking questions, volunteering answers, and assisting teammates as appropriate.
  • Continuously develop and strengthen the skills required for success in the Insurance Industry.
  • Ideate on problem areas and come up with meaningful, value-added solutions to implement.

 

Personal Lines Underwriting

The Personal Lines Underwriting Intern will gain hands-on experience in the underwriting process, assisting with risk assessment and analysis for a variety of insurance products. As an intern, you will work closely with our experienced underwriters to understand the principles of underwriting and contribute to the evaluation of insurance applications.

  • Risk Assessment: Support the underwriting team in evaluating risks associated with property and casualty insurance applications, including property inspection reviews, agent correspondence, endorsements, renewal activity. Review and analyze risk factors, including property values, loss histories, and industry-specific risks.
  • Learning and Development: Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance your understanding of underwriting practices and the Property & Casualty insurance industry. Continuously develop and strengthen the skills required for success in the Insurance Industry, including, but not limited to, presentation skills, sales partner collaboration, professionalism, and teamwork.
  • Data Entry and Analysis: Input and update data into underwriting systems, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Assist in analyzing data trends and preparing reports.
  • Process Improvement Research: Conduct research on underwriting process efficiencies and best practices, such as reviewing aspects of project or operational outputs and outcomes, analyzing various sets of data for potential recommendations for change or solutions to given issues.. Identify areas for process improvement, assist in developing strategies, and support the implementation of enhancements.
  • Teamwork: Participate fully with other team members by actively asking questions, providing perspectives answers, and assisting teammates as appropriate.
  • Research: Gather and organize data and information from a variety of sources in order to assist in deep dive research projects, such as sales partner performance, drivers of claims, and risk mitigation

 

Product Management Research

The Product Management Research intern will assist the Product Management team with filings and research. In this role, the intern will help drive profitability by helping the product management meet our rate plan and deliver meaningful changes to the market.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in analyzing, identifying and tracking new market trends, including underwriting and rate actions and proposing what actions to take. 
  • Facilitate, while working with other departments, in creation of product strategy, countrywide underwriting revisions and countrywide requirement updates. 
  • Perform state specific research on competitors and needed territories for their review. 
  • Complete marketing materials for state approved revisions. 
  • Assist in audit functions as needed. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Insurance Risk Management, Finance/Accounting, Data Analytics,  Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and techniques, including a strong interest in learning and using Power BI. Basic knowledge of SQL, Excel, and other data manipulation tools.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week for 12 weeks.
  • Candidates must be local (Amelia, OH) and have reliable transportation due to the hybrid work schedule.  Interns  and will work in the office at least 2 days a week.
