Position Overview

Munich Re is seeking a highly respected Long-Term Care (LTC) industry expert to shape the future of our LTC business. This is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving the vision, growth strategy, market presence and client engagement model for Munich Re’s LTC line of business.

As the organization’s key LTC claim subject matter expert, the Director will serve as the primary thought leader and strategic advisor to clients, internal leadership and industry stakeholders. This role will build and evolve LTC capabilities, identify market opportunities, develop or identify innovative solutions, influence industry best practices and position Munich Re as a recognized leader in the LTC market.

The successful candidate will combine deep LTC claims expertise with strong technical acumen, strategic thinking and leadership presence. They will work across functions and leadership teams to develop long-term risk mitigation strategies, strengthen client claim practices and partnerships, identify emerging risks and opportunities, develop and maintain LTC claim monitoring reports and drive LTC initiatives that retain value for clients and Munich Re.

 

Your Role:

Strategic LTC Management & Portfolio Protection

  • Lead the development and execution of Munich Re’s Long-Term Care claim management strategy
  • Serve as the enterprise-wide LTC claim and market subject matter expert and trusted advisor to leadership
  • Identify emerging industry and claim trends, market practice shifts, regulatory developments and LTC client and market needs to inform strategic priorities and potential opportunities for clients and Munich Re.
  • Develop and execute claim and risk monitoring initiatives that drive profitable growth, client value, innovation and market differentiation.
  • Partner with leaders across underwriting, claims, client management, pricing and product development to strengthen Munich Re’s LTC value proposition.
  • Build the frameworks, capabilities, tools and resources required to establish and grow leading LTC claim management capabilities within Munich Re.

 

Client Influence & Market Presence

  • Act as the client-facing LTC claim leader, providing strategic consultation, industry expertise and thought leadership.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with client organizations and key industry stakeholders.
  • Represent Munich Re in industry conferences, consortiums, client forums and/or professional associations and report on trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Serve as a visible industry LTC claim expert through presentations, publications, training programs and market-leading insights.
  • Engage with industry organizations and LTC working groups to influence best practices and support Munich Re’s market position.

 

Claims & Operational Excellence

  • Provide strategic and expert consultation on complex (high-liability, high-severity and contestable) and mature LTC claims.
  • Assess claims practices, risk exposure, emerging trends, operational effectiveness and opportunities for improvement across LTC portfolio
  • Perform external claims audits and operational assessments, providing clear and actionable recommendations to improve claims outcomes and operational performance.
  • Identify emerging risks, fraud trends, best practice gaps, payment irregularities, treaty noncompliance and claim reporting inconsistencies affecting the LTC business.
  • Develop leading-practice frameworks, tools, monitoring reports, training programs and governance standards for clients and internal stakeholders.

 

Vendor Management & Analytics

  • Laise with LTC Vendors in claim innovation initiatives that improve claims outcomes, operational efficiency, customer experience and/or business results.
  • Serve as key claims expert in process optimization and analytics within LTC.
  • Develop thought leadership on the future of LTC claims management and the evolution of the industry.
  • Establish performance measures, monitor business results and provide strategic recommendations informed by data and market insight.

 

 

Your Profile:  

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive Long-Term Care experience, with deep expertise in LTC claims, medical impairments, claims adjudication and risk assessment.
  • Recognized LTC industry expertise with demonstrated success influencing claim management direction and organizational outcomes.
  • Experience in reinsurance, insurance, consulting or healthcare-related organizations with significant LTC exposure.
  • Preferred Experience building, leading or transforming LTC programs, functions, products or business lines.
  • Strong track record of developing deep client relationships and serving as a LTC subject matter expert and advisor.
  • Experience leading complex initiatives, strategic projects and cross-functional programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive organizational change.

 

Claim Leadership & Business Skills

  • Ability to engage effectively with clients, industry leaders and senior executives.
  • Proven ability to influence without direct authority and lead through collaboration.
  • Strong analytical, claim management, prioritizing and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation and relationship management skills.
  • Experience representing an organization externally through industry events, thought leadership and professional forums.
  • Experience working with industry consortiums, regulatory bodies or professional associations.
  • Experience advising on new LTC products, services, client solutions or market strategies.
  • Advanced clinical, insurance, legal, rehabilitation or healthcare-related credentials are considered an asset.

The base salary range anticipated for this position is $132,000 to $177,000, plus an opportunity for an annual company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay.
